Following the new Mitsubishi Triton with MIVEC Turbodiesel’s recent announcement, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia will hold a first roadtour for the newly-introduced pick up from 1 – 2 October at the Setia Convention Center entitled the Triton Extra Hardcore Roadtour.
The main highlight at the roadtour will witness local drifter Leona Chin performing high-speed and stunt runs in a specially-tuned Triton pick up through special obstacle courses. The local drifter will run a range of obstacles at the roadtour, including the toughest obstacles of all: a 45-degree, 25-feet tall “sky” ramp that points upwards to the sky. Other challenges include the roller ramp test that will see the 4×4 vehicle “drive through” the giant obstacle truck as well as the side traverse and uneven ramp tests.
The Mitsubishi Triton turbodiesel is powered by a new aluminum alloy block 2.4-liter MIVEC Turbo Diesel engine with VGT Intercooler; available for the first time. Thanks to improvements in common rail diesel technology, diesel fuels can now combust at much lower pressure, leading to reduced noise and emissions. However precise control of the valves is necessary to maintain cold-start performance. By using lightweight aluminum instead of a traditional cast iron material, the new engine is about 30kg lighter than before, while at the same time retaining the same level of reliability and robustness that all Mitsubishi 4x4s are known for.
With MIVEC finely controlling the valves, improvements in all areas of performance can now be realized. The lower pressure in the combustion chamber also means that it is possible to use lightweight aluminum alloy material for the engine block.
Output and torque have been raised to 181 PS of power and 430 Nm on the Triton MIVEC and at the same time, fuel consumption has dwindled to 15 percent less compared to the petrol versions.
Meantime, NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) has also been updated for a quieter and more comfortable ride. The use of timing chain on the Triton MIVEC meant lower maintenance costs and an extended service lifespan.
After Setia Alam, the Triton Extra Hardcore roadtour is scheduled to hit Juru Auto City, Peneng from 8 – 9 OCtober, followed by Plaza Angsana, Johor Bahru from 15 – 16 October. Admission is free and visitors who make a booking of any Mitsubishi vehicles during the Mitsubishi Triton Extra Hardcore roadshow will receive a special edition Ralliart umbrella, while those who test drive any Mitsubishi model will receive an exclusive merchandise.
