|Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) yesterday unveiled their popular off-roader the Pajero Sport VGT in an enhanced guise. MMM had previously introduced the Pajero Sport VGT in 2009, followed by a newer version in September 2011.|
There are two versions of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in the country; the VGT and GL. MMM sold approximately 1,500 units of the Pajero Sport last year, and there’s an estimated 5,000 Pajeros on the road in the country. Globally, the Pajero variant has accumulated an estimated 200,000 units.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport VGT and GL; What’s new
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport VGT and GL now comes with slightly more premium and definitive features from the refreshed front bumper, grille to the 17-inch wheels (16-inch for the GL). Other exterior highlights include white turn signal rear tail lamp, color-keyed side mirror with signal indicator and a stylish roof rail. On the inside, the seven-seater SUV has refurbished leather seats and a more refined RV meter.
The Pajero Sport VGT comes with a reliable 2.5-liter powertrain diesel engine which produces a maximum output of 178 PS at 4,000 rpm, while maximum torque at 350 Nm. The Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) delivers uncompromising power while maintaining fuel efficiency by achieving an optimal turbo aspect ratio at any given speed. The GL version, also on a 2.5l engine, produces 136 PS at 3,500 rpm and 314Nm of torque. Both the VGT and GL are fitted with a INVECS-11 5 speed A/T (Auto transmission) with sports mode.
The Pajero Sport VGT is equipped with Mitsubishi Motors’ Super Select 4WD system that enables it to traverse the toughest terrain. This innovative system gives drivers a choice of driving modes (2H, 4H, 4HLc, 4LLc) for various conditions, be it maximizing fuel economy on tarmac, or for maximum traction on challenging surfaces.
Both of the new Pajeros come with tight minimum turning radius of just 5.6 meter, giving the drivers the ability to manoeuvre through tight spaces.
In the safety department, the Pajero Sports get dual airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distributor (EBD), Hybrid Limited Slip Differential (LSD, only for the VGT) and safety brake pedal, to name a few.
