The X1 and X3 are designated SAV (Sport Activity Vehicle) due its particular Crossover form. The X1 has that present youthful demeanor with additional X Line package motifs such as, exterior trims on the front bumper, side window seals and bigger 18-inch Y-Spoke wheels. Meantime, the larger X3 now has a panoramic glass roof, 18-inch Y-Spoke wheels, aluminium satin roof rails and a retouched tailgate.

Interior-wise, the refinements for the X1 include a new Dark Copper interior trim, a sports leather steering with gearshift paddles, the ever present BMW ConnectedDrive, 12-speaker Hi-Fi system, and Park Distance Control. The X3, quite similar to the smaller SAV, has a sports leather steering, aluminium interior trim finishers, an asymmetrical instrument panel, a center console with 8.8-inch display, and of course, the ConnectedDrive.

In the engine department, both the X1 and X3 carry a 2.0-liter Diesel Turbo engine and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The X1 and X3 power up to 184 hp and reaches top speed of 205 km/h, 212 km/h (X3). The X1 could go 0 – 100 km/h in 8 seconds, while the X3 does it in 8.5 secs. The X1 and X3’s fuel consumption and emissions figures are 5.4l per 100km & 143 grams and 5.6 per 100km & 147 grams, respectively. Everything is deemed doubly efficient thanks to Break Energy Regeneration, Electromechanical Steering, ECO PRO Mode, and demand-based control of ancillary components and functions.

A host of vehicle dynamics features put both SAVs in the best of situations, the elements include the xDrive all-wheel drive system, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and engine management with sensors. The DSC comprises the ABS anti-lock brake function, Dynamic Brake Control, Cornering Brake Control and Dynamic Traction Control.
