Motor Image has brought forth the 2015 Subaru WRX and WRX STI for the domestic market. The new Subaru WRX and WRX STI, featuring the signature Boxer powerplant and All-Wheel Drive system, are especially meant to appease Japanese performance car aficionados in the country.

Cumulative and extensive research & development at FHI (Fuji Heavy Industries) has yielded a more
aerodynamically savvy design. Additionally, the new WRX has a high-performance chassis with new Active Torque Vectoring system for a much improved ride. The STI version has a six-speed manual transmission that promises an even more engaging adventurous drive than the previous generation WRX STI. Thanks to a more rigid chassis and tighter suspension settings, the STI has a reduced body roll by 16% and much improved lateral acceleration of 7% , compared to its predecessor.

New exterior elements ensure a more menacing Subaru WRX, WRX STI

Exterior-wise, the WRX and WRX STI share the similar four-door wide-body design, although the STI version is deemed a bit more appealing for the obvious reasons. Both WRX and WRX STI have the recognizable LED headlights with auto leveling, front & rear foglights, side sill spoilers, diffuser with rear lip spoiler, shark fin antenna, dual muffler, and a large rear spoiler for the STI. In dimensions, the WRXs get beefed up to 4,595 mm in length, 1,795 mm width and 2,650mm wheelbase, while the overall height is somewhat reduced to 1,475mm. Front and rear tracks stand at 1,530 and 1,540mm, respectively. Kerb weight differs ever so slightly between the WRX and its STI sibling at 1,529 kilograms and 1,516 kg.

The interior of the WRXs get roomier, with new elements like an electro-luminescent gauge and Multi-function display (STI has the SI-Drive, Multi-mode DCCD and gauges with LCD display) and a D-shaped or flat bottomed steering with switches added as part of the interior refinements. The audio system on the WRXs is now enabled with Bluetooth connectivity, USB and AUX inputs.

Sport bucket seats with bolsters and alcantara inserts are standard for the STI, while the WRX has newly designed leather seats with red stitching or fabric seats with white stitching. The sportier WRX is offered with the relevant STI embroideries, sport pedals, and two choices of leather for the front seats. Boot space has an adequate capacity of 460 liters for both WRXs.

The WRX’s 2.0-liter turbo and WRX STI’s 2.5-liter Boxer turbocharged powerplant churn 268 PS at 5,600 rpm and 300 PS at 6,000 rpm. Transmission for the STI is a 6-speed manual, whereas the WRX is incorporated with a Sport Lineartronic with manual mode. Fuel consumption and emissions ratings for the WRX and WRX STI are 8.6liter/100km, 199 g/km and 10.4l/100km, 242 g/km.

Multi-mode vehicle dynamics control and advance braking are standard equipment for the WRXs, while Brembo brakes is exclusive to the WRX STI. Multi-mode control enables the driver to unleash the three available drive modes: Normal, Traction and Off mode.

Safety features are aplenty for the WRXs, which comprise a plentitude of airbags, whiplash reducing front seats, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Brake override, ISOFIX and immobilizer; just to name a few.
