Naza Kia Malaysia today unveiled the all-new KIA Sportage and Sorento at the KL Performing Arts Center in the Capital City. Both Kia Sportage and Sorento have been widely circulated since its global introduction, this year. Aptly themed “One Seduces, One Conquers”, the new Kia Sportage and Sorento models are expected to rejuvenate the Korean marque’s brand perception in the country and capture vital market share of the growing SUV domestically.
The new Kia Sportage, into its fourth-generation, builds comprehensively on the success of the outgoing version, offering an innovative and sophisticated package to buyers in an increasingly competitive SUV market.
The fourth-generation Kia Sportage comes with a bolder overall design to evoke a sense of sporty and powerful energy when viewed from every angle. The attractive ‘face’ of the Sportage features the biggest change to the car’s design over its predecessor, with Kia’s hallmark ‘tiger-nose’ grille, the headlights with Ice Cube foglights and LED DRLs. At the same time, the swept back along the outer edges of the sharply-detailed bonnet and a lower and wider grille give the Sportage a more menacing front look.
The new Sportage maintains its recognizable profile, with a 30 mm longer wheelbase (now 2,670 mm), 40 mm greater overall vehicle length (to 4,480 mm) and longer, more aerodynamic rear spoiler resulting in a more swept-back shape. From the highest point of the roof, the Sportage’s silhouette gently tapers towards the rear of the car, while bolder wheel arches, sharp features lines and smooth surfacing endow the Sportage with a more dynamic stance. Longer front overhangs (up by 20 mm) and shorter rear overhangs (reduced by 10 mm) add to the car’s more raked profile.
At the rear, the new Sportage features more horizontal forms and clearly defined features lines, with smooth bodywork on the tailgate, emphasizing the car’s width and giving the compact SUV a more stable appearance. Other noticeable highlights at the rear include the slim combination lights that run along a horizontal parallel are joined together by a strip that runs the width, the turn signals and reversing lights, a re-profiled undercover and a newly-designed bumper. Wheel options for the Sportage consists of the 17-inchers for the Sportage KX and 19-inch for the Sportage ‘GT Line’, available for the first time.
Inside, the new Sportage is set to be the most practical Kia SUV yet thanks to increased interior dimensions and a cabin with wide, driver-oriented dashboard, as well as simple refinements. Greater emphasis has been addressed on more effective soundproofing and reducing exterior noise on the new Sportage.
A range of on-board technologies has been reserved for the new Sportage, including an 8-seaker JBL system, 4.2-inch LCD screen on the supervision instrument cluster, and power seats for both driver and front passenger. Upholstery comprises of fabric-typed on the Sportage KX and leather on the Sportage GT Line. The GT Line also gets specially-appointed door handles, sport pedals, Push Start switch, high-gloss center console, steering paddle shifters and dual-zone air-conditioning.
