New BMW i3s graces Malaysia Auto Show

For the Malaysia Auto Show from 11 – 14 April, BMW Malaysia pits the i3s as the center piece of models on display at MAEPS, Serdang. As most already know, the i for a BMW means its an all-electric model. The drive to introduce the i3s is in line with the country’s EEV policy, with its targeted 80% penetration of EEVs in the total industry volume by 2022,

Spawned from the i3, which sold 120,000 units globally, the i3s continues BMW’s electric car objectives with a more polished styling accents, advanced integrated technology and a clean design. The car is also 80% furnished with recycled and renewable resources.

With the refinement of the BMW eDrive technology, the i3s guarantees an emission-free drive without compromising on driving and energy efficiency. The i3s generates an impressive maximum output of 135kW/184hp, making it the most formidable machine of its class. Of occurse, the i3s and electric cars by BMW are supported by the ChargEV platform through BMW Malaysia’s partnership with GreenTech Malaysia.

Familiar BMW i3s

The i3s sports a bold front bumper with a black U-shaped surround and a high-gloss black accent for its closed kidney grille. Further highlights entail lateral trim strips on the front apron, LED headlights, turn signal in the front apron, high-gloss black accent on the A-pillar and roof. From the back, the i3s has a more assertive stance thanks to a rear spoiler and wide black surround. 20-inch I light double spoke wheels complete the exterior package of the EEV.

A motor pairing with Single-Speed Automatic Transmission gives the EEV a max output of 184hp, with a peak torque of 270Nm. Zero to hundred is 6.9 seconds. On electric mode, the car could achieve a range of 260km.

Sports suspension for an EEV

The BMW i3s is also equipped with sports suspension as standard, which includes a 10mm drop in ride height, with an increased track width of 40mm for sportier handling.  Besides, the car gets optimized Dynamic Stability Control and Dynamic Traction Control, along with Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Brake Control and ABS.

Inside, BMW’s newest EEV is furnished with the BMW i Interior Design Suite that features a sophisticated instrument panel and exquisite upholstery in Dark Truffle Leather Vernasca. The BMW i3s is complete with Carum Spice Grey headliner and a premium leather steering wheel. Other highlights are the BMW ConnectedDrive, navigation and the whole nine yards fitting the i3s.

Aside from conventional charging, the car is chargeable via a smartphone with the BMW ConnectedDrive or through personal computers (PC) and tablets. In addition, the BMW i Wallbox facilitates lightning speed charging at home for a significantly longer all-electric driving range.

Lastly, all your necessary driver’s assistance features are included.

The BMW i3s comes in Fluid Black, Capparis White and Mineral Grey hues. An RM 279,000 price tag was announced by BMW Malaysia at the M’sia Autoshow.
