On the exterior, the new Nissan Sylphy is a typical upgrade of the 2nd-generation Sylphy and valid in two variations; the 1.8E and 1.8VL classes. The front-end takes on a similar 3-D chrome grille of its compact sibling, the Almera. For the first time, the Sylphy is offered with Xenon or HID headlights, plus LED Accent lights (for the Sylphy VL version). The headlights switch on and off automatically on the Sylphy VL version and manually on the E version. Front foglights are valid on the VL version, too. From the side, the flowing character line runs from the curved front fender to the rear combination lights to form a aerodynamically savvy silhouette. More LEDs fill up the rear of the car; on the indicators, embedded in the rear lights, and on high-mounted third brake light (fused to the spoiler for the VL). A spoiler is available on the VL version, while an expanded bumper with reflectors are standard for both versions. Wheel and tyre sizes are 16-inch for the E version and 17-inch for the VL. The Sylphy has an improved aero. shape which decreases resistance and improves under floor airflow for a 0.29 cd (co-efficient drag) rating.
2014 Nissan Sylphy interior offers larger than life spaciousness
Like its compact sibling, the new Sylphy is known for its cabin spaciousness, especially at the back’s legroom; up to 680 mm. Additionally, the shoulder room gets expanded a further 30mm compared to the previous generation. Boot space on the Sylphy takes up 510 liters, a leading figure in its class. Interior highlights include a flowing curved instrument panel that’s padded with soft materials. Urethane or Leather steering with switches, Urethane or Leather gearknob for the Sylphy E and VL, Intelligent key and push start (Sylphy VL), Dual-zone a/c (VL), 4.3-inch screen with reverse camera, Fine Vision Meter with chrome trims provides driver’s information (VL), a standard 6-speaker system, fabric or leather upholstery, and rear armrest and trunk access. An Eco mode indicator is in place to ensure comfort as well as fatigue-free drives.
The new Sylphy is powered by the latest 1.8L MRA8DE Twin CVTC engine that’s paired to an XCVT (Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission) for a decent 131 PS and 174 Nm of torque @ 3,600 rpm. Front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam keep the Sylphy grounded, whereas stopping power relies on front ventilated and rear disc brakes.
Safety features are also enhanced for this 3rd-gen Sylphy, they include 6 airbags for the first time, VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control), ABS, EBD, Traction control and Brake Assist. In addition, front seat belts with load limiters and pre-tensioners are standard equipment. Overall car structure and NVH have been improved as well, thanks to the use of high tensile steel, acoustic insulation materials and a vibration-absorbing suspension.
