In terms of looks, the new IS takes up the current most recognizable Lexus front fascia element – the spindle grille. The L-shaped daytime running lights are one of the many front fixtures on the new IS range. At the side, character lines and wide-flared wheel arches marry the  car’s masculinity with an elegant persona, whilst providing an impressionable road presence and the Lexus branding. From the rear, the contoured shape with the step bumper, twin exhaust, and the exquisite ‘L’ LED-strip rearlights are instantly bonafide Lexus trademarks. Wheels and tyres specifications for the base IS 250 and 300 h are  5-spoke alloys, 17-inch; while the Luxury IS 250 and F-sport version take on multi-spoke alloys,18-inch tyres. The IS 300h even takes on run-flat tyres.

In general, every exterior section has been shaped for smooth airflow and aero-stabilizing fins have even been added in important sections to direct the airflow optimally around the body. Dimension-wise, the latest IS has been slightly extended: wheelbase +70mm, length +80mm and width +10. The height measurement remains similar to its predecessor at 1430mm.

The engine is matched to a six-speed ECT with sequential manual-shifting transmission. The transmission allows rev-matched downshifts in one of the available drive modes, SPORT; the other two modes are ECO and Normal.

For the IS 300h, the Lexus Hybrid Drive System uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine (178 bhp) with an electric motor (141 bhp) that has been specially designed for use with a rear-wheel drive layout.
