Nissan Lightfoot Quest 2013 testifies Nissan Almera’s best-in-class fuel efficiency

Flag Off The recently concluded Nissan Lightfoot Quest 2013 saw Edaran Tan Chong Motor pit the best-selling compact sedan Nissan Almera to this year’s fuel efficiency drive challenge.

Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) invited Nissan Almera owners and the media to slug it out on route from Glenmarie, Shah Alam to Gopeng, Perak. At the conclusion of the challenge, Chen khong Lung and partner beat 32 other Almeras for the Lightfoot 2013 first prize and trophy. Khong Yin Swan, better known as Y.S., whitewashed the media category as he achieved the Almera’s lowest fuel consumption ratings at 33.6km/liter.

The Nissan Lightfoot quest challenge embarked early from the Glenmarie vicinity, heading to the required destination at Gopeng. Prior to the slow and always-looking-at-the-fuel-gauge drive began, the participants were provided fuel saving tips and tricks. The prying eyes of the judges from the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) were trailing the participants all the way, in case someone cheated and drove to a station for a quick re-fuel. Participants were to re-fuel only when they had reached Gopeng.

During the journey, most drivers observed the requirement of accelerating lightly and smoothly at a consistent speed. In addition, they avoided unnecessary loads, excess idling and engine stop, as well as followed the 30-second warm-up to the dot. As a regulation in the Lightfoot quest, air-conditioner was switched on and the controller sealed, while the petrol tank and the front bonnet were also sealed till the refueling point.

Winners - Customer Category

At the final destination after the scrutinizing, Khong Lung and his partner Lai Leh Mey were declared the winners of the Nissan Almera owners. Their Almera’s average fuel ratings of 27.2km/l was the best among the total of 66 participants of the Nissan Lightfoot quest. The pair walked home with RM 5,000 cash, while Rebecca Tan Cheng Ann and Lee Beng Tan took home first runner-up prize of RM 3,000 cash and Muhammad Izzuddin Ilias and Mohd Faisal Kamarudin were third and got RM2,000 richer.

“We were extremely surprised and taken back by the fuel-efficiency of the Nissan ALMERA after having a glimpse at the refuel meter as we waited for the final results. We were worried of the time duration given while trying to maintain the vehicle’s speed and focusing on driving smoothly. This proves that with proper driving techniques shared earlier by the event organizers, though under realistic driving condition, Nissan Almera was certainly able to reach its optimum fuel-efficiency,” a worn-out Khong Lung explained.

Dato’ Dr. Ang Bon Beng, Executive Director of ETCM commented, “ETCM is delighted to have initiated this Nissan Lightfoot quest competition as it was a great chance for our customers to acquire the right driving techniques in order to enjoy higher fuel-efficiency of their Nissan Almera.”
