Nissan X-Gear 5-seater gets beefier look and lots of versatility

Edaran Tan Chong Motor today showcased the 2014 5-seater Crossover X-Gear at a popular Petaling Jaya shopping mall. For the current year, the upgraded Grand Livina, X-Gear, attains a little more lavish exterior and interior elements compared to its predecessor. (click to enlarge)

On the exterior, the 2014 X-Gear takes on a chrome V-shaped front grille with smoked horizontal panes for a more feasible front-end. The front bumper, too, has a ‘black sump guard’ update. Fresh cast, slightly larger fenders, a wing mirror, a more pronounced roof rail and 15-inch alloy wheels fulfill the X-Gear’s side impression. From the rear, the X-Gear has the horizontal rear lights which closely resemble that of the Volkswagen Cross Touran. The rear bumper is incorporated with integrated reflectors, with a grey-colored skid plate to boost the general profile, and up top, there’s a third LED brake light; just below the protruding spoiler-like form, above the rear windshield. Up top, the roof rails of the Nissan X-Gear can hold a weight load of up to 25 kilograms.

Nissan X-Gear IMPUL: Refreshed and Geared for more adventures ahead

On the X-Gear IMPUL version, added elements include; the large IMPUL rear roof spoiler, 17” IMPUL Aura SX-20 Alloy Wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional tyres and IMPUL Sports Suspension System. The optional package totals RM 9,800.

Moving to the inside, the similarity to its predecessor is quite obvious; though current X-Gear owners won’t mind the fresh fabric seats, the Fine Vision Meter Cluster with Multi-info display and three-spoke steering with switches. On the console, there’s the usual compartment for small items, gearknob and 2-DIN audio unit, just below the black-liveried air-conditioning vents. When the 60:40 split folding rear seats are down, boot space increase from 383 to 769 liters.

A 1.6-liter engine, paired to a 4-speed regular automatic transmission, in the X-Gear enables 105 PS and a casual 150 Nm of torque. However, the 2014 X-Gear powerplant’s valve timing control technology offers a more fuel efficiency than the previous X-Gear.

The Nissan X-Gear, being the top range Grand Livina, has ample equipment on board to ensure utmost safety such as the pre-tensioner front seatbelts with load limiters, dual airbags, and the active ABS, BA and EBD.
