Malaysia’s best-selling model, the Perodua MyVi, has achieved a millionth mark in production. This millionth Perodua MyVi is a historic milestone for the National carmakers.

To commemorate the momentous occasion, Perodua had a special “line-off” ceremony at its manufacturing facility in Sungai Choh, Rawang which was officiated by Perodua Auto Corporation’s President, Masanori Takahashi and Vice President, Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

The millionth MyVi that rolled off the production line last week represented the most highly sought-after model, by Perodua, both locally and international. Since its debut in May 2005, the Perodua MyVi quickly became the country’s number one model, taking over from second National carmakers Proton. The model topped the TIV and remained the most in-demand model until the end of 2014. To date, the MyVi, along with the Axia and Bezza, is among the best selling model for Perodua. “The Perodua Myvi has set a new standard for us in terms of products offerings as well as customer expectations and it is our benchmark for all our future models,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh said. “Based on our internal calculations, all our models; the Myvi, Alza, Axia and Bezza retain their spot as the most preferred vehicles in their respective segments.”

The MyVi has also been a sought-after model overseas. For the export market, the Myvi is available and sold in 6 countries since 2006, which included Mauritius, Brunei, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Fiji and Nepal. The Myvi’s biggest export market, however, is Indonesia under the Daihatsu Sirion brand with nearly 31,000 vehicles sold since 2007. In total, Perodua exported 35,400 Myvi/Sirion models since 2006 in these markets.

Sales continues to be brisk for Perodua despite slowing economy

For the first five months of the year, Perodua sold 81,900 vehicles which is an increase of 5.9% from 77,300 units sold in the same period in 2016. “We estimate that the total industry volume for the first 5 months of the year to be 233,700 units. Based on this number, our market share for the year so far is at 35%,” Perodua’s CEO added. “We are cautiously optimistic of achieving our 202,000 sales target for this year despite the continued tough and challenging market condition.”

With a healthy overseas market, the Myvi leads other models like the Bezza in several countries, including Mauritius, Brunei an Fiji.
