Nasim (Peugeot Malaysia) today introduced the anticipated, all-new Peugeot 408 e-THP, a model that provides First Class access for all. The new Peugeot 408 e-THP is classified as an Executive Sedan with upper C-segment denomination, as well as attributes of a premium D-segment.

The new 408 is the latest model to take up Peugeot’s EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform) and enlarged dimensions for a roomier interior: length at 4750mm, width at 1820mm, height at 1480mm and a wheelbase of 4750mm. Thanks to EMP2, significant weight reduction of 70 kilograms has been achieved to impart greater versatility and performance, compared to the previous generation. Lighter technical components and advanced laser welding techniques have also contribute to an additional 70 kg off the total weight.

At a glance, the front-end of the new Peugeot 408 bears the Lion marque’s signature chrome grille with the unmistakable Lion emblem in the center. Along with the LED headlights , horizontal lines on lower portion of the front end, air intakes positioned between the fog lights and indicators, decked in chrome, the new Peugeot 408 has its charming and dynamic character.

Moving to the side, the new Peugeot 408 has a sophisticated profile thanks to smooth body lines, low-sloping silhouette and a shoulder line that links the front and rear lights. Alloy wheels in 17-inch sizes with 215/50R17 tyres complete the new 408’s stylistic profile. From the rear, a wide stance makes the new 408 appear a little more muscular than its predecessor. Meanwhile, the rear combination lights, rear foglights, double-rectangled tailpipes and slim tailgate further accentuate the rear of the 408 e-THP.

The interior matches the exterior of the 408 e-THP to the dot in terms plush factors and the First Class status quo. First and foremost, the new Peugeot 408 is the third model to incorporate Peugeot futuristic i-Cockpit. The i-Cockpit offers an instinctive, safer and natural driving experience through cutting-edge technology. Consisting four integrated components, the i-Cockpit comprises the compact, yet agile sport steering, wrapped in leather, a HUD (Heads-up display) with symmetrically-designed needles, a center console that is placed at a high position, and finally, a 9.7-inch multi-function touchscreen. The 9.7-inch touchscreen as a one-stop center enables easy access to these functions: air-conditioning, driving aids, multimedia, telephony, configuration and navigation. The exquisite i-Cockpit has recently garnered “Most Beautiful Interior” by the folks at the Festival Automobile International. Other major highlights of the 408 e-THP are; chrome inserts on the front door panels, leather upholstery, power-adjustable seats with massage function, center console with chrome surround, a rear a/c vent and 565 liters of boot space.

Powered by an able 1.6-liter e-THP (Efficient Turbo High Pressure) with Twin Scroll technology, the new 408 outputs 165 HP at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 245 Nm from 1400 rpm. The 0 – 100 km sprint is done in 8.2 seconds, while an AT6 (6-speed) with Quickshift technology transmission, which comprises of the latest generation of AISIN 6-speed gearbox, is paired to the engine to evoke certain driving pleasure and keep fuel consumption at an efficient rate. Combined fuel ratings and emissions for the new 408 are 6.5l/100km and 156g/km.

The new Peugeot 408 e-THP’s suspension setup is made up of MacPherson fronts and a deformable cross member at the rear. Stopping power relies on ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the rear.

All Peugeot vehicles are renowned for its driver’s assistance systems and safety features, and the new 408 isn’t excluded from the barrage of driver’s assistance systems and safety features. Prominent driver’s assistance equipment on the list include Smart Parking Assist II, which now offers both parallel and perpendicular parking, BLISS (Blind Spot Information System), keyless entry, push start, electric park brake abd hill start assist, which is part of the ESC package. Some of the important safety features equipped for the 408 e-THP include 6 airbags, 3 ISOIFIX anchors, and a long list of active and passive features.
