Polestar, the new electric performance brand, will make its European debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March with the company’s first car, the Polestar 1, seen in public for the first time.
The Polestar 1 is an Electric Performance Hybrid GT with 600hp, 1000Nm of torque and with 150km of range in Pure mode, has the longest electric-only driving range of any hybrid car in the world. The Polestar 1 had its global reveal in Shanghai in October 2017 and will start production in mid-2019. “We are looking forward to exhibiting at the Geneva Motor Show and are excited to hear feedback and see the reactions from the public on our first car and our new brand,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Chief Executive Officer at Polestar. “Our stand in Geneva will be a powerful incarnation of what our brand embodies: uncompromised, pure and progressive design.”
Polestar’s European debut begins with a media event on Tuesday 6 March, with the stand open to the public from 08-18 March.
Polestar One overview
The 600hp Polestar 1 is set to roll off the production line in mid-2019. In impression, the Polestar 1 is a two-door, 2+2 seat Grand Tourer Coupé with an ‘Electric Performance Hybrid’ drivetrain. An electric car supported by an internal combustion engine, it has a range of 150km on pure electric power alone, the longest full-electric range of any hybrid car on the market. Its output of 600hp and 1000Nm of torque places the car firmly in the performance car segment.
Based upon Volvo’s Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), the Polestar 1 comprises approximately 50% new and bespoke elements. To reinforce its dynamic driving characteristics, Polestar 1 benefits from a host of new technologies, all aimed at making it a true driver’s car. Polestar1 is the world’s first car to be fitted with the all-new class-leading Öhlins Continuously Controlled Electronic Suspension (CESi) advanced chassis technology. A carbon fiber body reduces bodyweight and improves torsional stiffness by 45%, as well as lowering the car’s center of gravity. Additionally, Polestar 1 uses a double electric rear axle, which enables torque vectoring.
Polestar is Volvo Car Group’s performance road car brand. In October 2017, Polestar was confirmed as a new, separately-branded high-performance electrified car company, offering a portfolio of bespoke Polestar cars. Polestar will enjoy specific technological and engineering synergies with Volvo Cars and benefit from significant economies of scale as a result of its connection to Volvo. These synergies will allow it to design, develop and build world-beating electrified high performance cars.
Today, Polestar builds the S60 and V60 Polestar, 367 hp performance road cars with over 250 developments over-and-above the standard Volvo products. It also offers Polestar Engineered performance hardware upgrades and engine software optimizations for existing Volvo products.
