|Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP), distributors of Porsche cars, have added the latest Porsche 911 Carrera 4S and 4 to its comprehensive 911 line-up.|
Porsche Carrera 4/4S range
The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 range comprises the Porsche 911 Carrera 4, Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, Porsche 911 Carrera 4S and Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet. The occasion also marked the Porsche 911’s 50th Anniversary.
Both top-of-the-line Porsche Carrera 4S and 4S Cabriolet share a 3.8-litre boxer engine with 400 hp, mated to a seven-speed gearbox which includes a manual (the world’s first for a production model) or an optional PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetrieb) with PTM (Porsche Traction Management). The powertrain enables the 4S to hit 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, while the 4S Cabriolet version hits that mark in 4.7s. These figures improve marginally when PDK or Sport Chrono is added into the mix. The Carrera 4S and 4S Cabriolet’s top speed are accorded 299km/h and 296km/h respectively. Fuel consumption (NEDC) and CO2 read 9.9 l/100 km, 234 g/km for Carrera 4S and 10 l/100 km, 236 g/km for the 4S open-top.
In looks, the Porsche 911 Carreras share a common, predominatly aluminium lightweight body of the current 911 Carrera line-up. A new LED strip adds a little more charisma to the 911 Carrera 4S’s rear end. Available in rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S get increased dimensions; Carrera 4 has 42mm wider track at the rear, while the Carrera 4S measures 36mm more at the back. In addition, both line-ups have a longer wheelbase, which is 100 mm longer than the previous variants.
Interior-wise, the central design element is the center console that rises towards the front. The dashboard has a classic layout with the familiar five round instruments. Amenities inside include, a 4.8-inch high-resolution TFT color monitor in the instrument cluster to the right of the central tachometer, lightweight sport shell seats, sound package plus with nine loudspeakers, and plenty more benefits that Porsche enthusiasts are accustomed to. Add-on options include Burmester or BOSE sound system, Park Assistant: front and rear and Porsche Entry & Drive system. With the manual or Sport Chrono package, there are more graphics that the driver can appreciate, such as; G-Force display on longitudinal and transverse acceleration and the manual mode’s shift assistant.
The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 range rely on the chassis’ wider rear track, preferably with PTM all-wheel drive, for greater stability around bends, as well as standard and optional equipment such as; PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management), dynamic engine mounts, PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control), electromechanical power steering, Torque Vectoring, a high-performance brake system, and the car’s 19-inch wheels, 235/40ZR19 (front) and 295/35ZR19 (rear) tyres. As an option for sportier drives, the sport to sport chrono package with PDK allow launch control and a faster by 0.2s 0 – 100km/dash at a press of the sport plus switch. Additionally, the Sport Plus switch activates the PDK “race course” shifting for quicker shifts and optimal shift points to boost aceleration and performance. At start-up, the car’s sound symposer and sport exhaust system assure very satisfying acoustics.
