Most people would already have seen a Proton X70 SUV on the road, thanks to high demand for Proton’s most sought-after model since the tie-up with Chinese manufacturers Geely. In a latest release, Proton announced the 8,500 units of the X70 SUV delivered to a customer in just 100 days since the X70 debut.
The Proton X70 was delivered to a certain individual at Lee Allen Hishammuddin & Gledhill (LHAG). LHAG had ordered several X70s as part of the company’s required fleet, which included the 8,500th X70.
This one-of-a-lifetime sales record surpasses the Natonal carmaker’s previous records. In Proton’s quarter of a century of existence, with numerous models previously, they’ve never ever had that kind of record. Proton has jumped to the top of the heap in the SUV segment almost instantaneously.
The X70 alone has kept Proton’s portfolio rising, while upcoming models like the FL Persona and Iriz are expected to push the National carmaker past Honda and inches closer to Perodua, who’s at the top of the sales charts in the country. Over the starting two months, Proton has amassed a cumulative growth rate of 42%, which translate to the highest sales growth rate among the Top-3 automotive brands in Malaysia, by volume. The Proton X70 is expected to continue its momentum in March and into April.
Proton’s CEO Dr Li Chunrong said, “By delivering 8,500 units of the Proton X70 in 100 days, the Company has proven Malaysian car buyers have taken a liking to our first SUV. We continue to be humbled by their support and we are working hard to deliver more units as quickly as possible to reduce the waiting time of our customers.”
“We are delighted that LHAG, our long-term corporate partner, has chosen to add the Proton X70 to its fleet. First impressions are important in the business world so we are proud our SUV will represent the firm at business meetings and events,” he added.
A customary ceremony was performed to present the Proton X70s to LHAG. Presenting the units to LHAG was Mohammad Zainal Shaari, Chairman of DRB-Hicom while receiving on behalf of LHAG was Rosli Dahlan, partner at the law firm.
