Proton line-up ready to face 2nd annual 1 Tank Challenge

National carmakers Proton is organizing the 1 Tank challenge for owners, for a second year. The event is set to begin tomorrow and prizes worth over RM100,000 await the winners. The 1 tank challenge isn’t Easy!

Last season’s 1 Tank challenge was held in the Peninsular’s West coast. This time around, the challenge is set for East Malaysia, an arduous drive across the two largest States Sabah and Sarawak, with a grand final route to be held from the capital of the Kelantan state to the capital city of the Johor state.

This 1 tank challenge is Proton’s initiative to showcase its current line-up, under the Geely stewardship. It’s also meant to prove Proton cars are frugal and fuel efficient for that matter. The current models include Iriz, Persona and Saga; these models will be utilized in the 1 tank challenge. All of the 2019 models incorporate the ’Hi Proton’ voice command, have better build quality and got better overall safety equipment. Each model above can be obtained under RM40k.

The Iriz and Persona were unveiled together while the Saga came up not long ago. We’ll provide an overview on each model if you haven’t read our previous posts. The Saga is a model with a strong sentiment in the local auto scene, since it came up in 1985. After 34 years, the Saga has accumulated over 2 million units in this country and abroad. For 2019, the Saga gets major exterior and interior updates including a 7-inch colour touchscreen, new center panel, new meter combination display and up to 3 USB ports. The Saga has thus far amassed some 13,000 bookings, since its early August debut.

The Proton Iriz and Persona

Both Iriz and Persona took up the Geely-themed design features, following the first Proton-Geely model X70’s package. Several interior highlights for the two compacts include an infotainment with embedded eSIM card, navigation and voice recognition; a 7-inch color touchscreen; and a built-in 16GB internal memory.

The new compacts are said to have 367 changes over their predecessors, except  one’s hatch and the other a sedan, with fresh overall exterior elements.
