|Proton yesterday officiated its newest variant the Proton Suprima S based on the Preve variant. The Suprima S is only the second variant to be introduced since the national carmakers officially came under the DRB-Hicom umbrella a year and a half earlier.|
Prior to the Suprima S’ introduction, Proton had called out for a suitable designation for the new compact; and following a couple of months’ contemplating, the Suprima S nailed it.
Proton Suprima S’ exterior motifs
Proton’s special advisor and the Leader Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad, along with bigwigs from DRB-Hicom and Proton were on hand to present the Proton Suprima S at the MATRADE Center in the capital city. A glance at the Suprima S entails a direct copy of the Preve, which was presented in April last year; especially at the front-end and side. The front fascia gets the usual daytime running lights, which is apparently inherited from the Preve. From the rear, in our opinion, the Suprima resembles the Kia Spectra hatchback from 2006 – 07. Suprima S’ rear end incorporates LED light guides; something like a diffuser on the back of GT race cars, even F1 cars. Wheels are based on 7-spoke rims and 17-inch specifications.
Proton Suprima S: An inside low-down
Inside, the hatchback Preve gets several updated features such as, the Proton Infotainment that runs on an Android-based system, a large 7-inch touch screen, steering with shifters and auto cruise switches, leather seats, and Hill-Assist- Hold as well as Park Assist with front parking sensors and reverse sensors (Premium range).
The Proton Suprima S is powered by a 1.6L Turbo engine that’s paired to a 7-speed ProTronic CVT. The powerplant can churn 140 PS at 5000rpm and up to 205Nm of torque between 2000 – 4000 rpm.
Induced with the similar Lotus Ride and Handling, the Proton Suprima S shares plenty of ride dynamics and suspension settings with the Preve variant. Even safety features are derived from the Preve like, the six airbags, anti-trap power windows, ABS and ESC with Traction Control. It’s pertinent to note that the some of the equipment inside the Preve and Suprima S are developed by BOSCH.
The Proton Suprima S is offered in two trims, Executive and Premium from RM76,338.00 and 79,638.00 on-the-road with insurance. It includes a 5-year or 150,000km warranty and a 5-Year Free Road Assist. Body colors consist of Fire Red, Tranquility Black, Solid White, Genetic Silver and a new shade, Atlantic Blue.
