On the occasion of the 18th edition of the International Engine of the Year Awards in Stuttgart, a jury of international journalists awarded the PureTech turbocharged 1.2-liter 3-cylinder petrol engine the accolade of the engine of the year 2017 in category 1-liter to 1.4-liter.
The “engine of the year” award in 2017 crowns the commercial success of the PureTech range of engines, which is available in 110 and 130 hp (PureTech 110 S & S and PureTech 130 S & S) for the third consecutive time.

Already produced at more than 850,000 units since its launch in 2014 on the industrial sites of the French Mechanics in Douvrin (Pas de Calais) and Xiang Yang in China, the PureTech engine will also be produced on the site of Trèmery (Moselle) From the end of 2017 to meet the strong demand doubling the production capacity of engines in France. Equipping all of PSA Group’s most versatile and high-end vehicles, the 1.2 PureTech 110 and 130 bhp 1.2 engine has more than 90 applications marketed in nearly 70 countries. In 2017, he contributed to the commercial success of the Group’s new products: the new Peugeot 3008, which was voted “Car of the Year 2017” and the new Citroën C3.
In the European market, the PureTech 1.2L 3-cylinder modular family represents 1/3 of the Group’s total petrol and diesel engines.
With PureTech’s revolutionary 1.2l 3-cylinder turbocharged engine, the PureTech turbocharged engine continues to grow and will benefit from significant improvements before the end of 2017 to improve performance and consumption (up to 4%), with the introduction of a particulate filter (GPF – Gasoline Particulate Filter) to reduce particulate emissions by more than 75% and to meet anticipated future European and 2020 standards. In addition, optimization of the yields due in particular to the evolution of the combustion cycles and a high injection pressure to 250b, as well as reduction of friction, introduction of a new turbocharger and reduction of the compactness, allowing optimized aerodynamics (gain SCx).
