Based on our first impressions of Peugeot’s latest SUV, the New 3008, we are convinced that this one is a segment winner in Malaysia. The key aspects to consider the new Peugeot 3008 as your next new ride are aplenty, from the tantalizingly good looks to the competitive starting prices for both the Active and Allure variants.

Senior writer, Deborah Joy Peter, highlighted in her recent article that the new 3008 has been touted as a technologically-savvy SUV with intuitive architecture by 58 motoring journalists from 22 countries. At the top of the list is the i-Cockpit along with an interior finishing of premium black Claudio leather, an ultra-modern steering with paddle shift and LED cabin mood lighting. Add to the overall cajolery a 12.3-inch digital head-up cluster display, five-mode advanced grip control, and an eight-inch multi-function touchscreen with total multimedia connectivity. The other plus point is ample small storage compartments in the cabin and a large enough boot space.

The impression at first glance of the new Peugeot 3008 is something that should definitely captivate the hearts of many SUV enthusiasts and would-be buyers. New for this generation of 3008 is the redesigned front fascia, paired to the chequered wide grille with chrome plated trims. This helps to create a wide stance, when viewed from the front. Then, there’s the chromed 3-D foglights which seem to emerge from the bumpers. Side view, you just can’t take your eyes off the 18-inch Los Angeles Shiny Haria Grey alloy wheels. From the rear, you’ll be hooked on the new signature 3D rear claw taillights.

Powered by the able 1.6 THP with VVT powerplant, the new 3008 pushes 167 ps at a maximum capacity of 6,000 revolutions per minute easy. The torque of 240 Nm simply makes the SUV even more effective when accelerating from idle or traffic. Oh, in case you haven’t noticed, the new 3008 happens to be the most powerful SUVs in its segment, with its current torque rating.

For further exhilaration, tap on the available Sport mode or utilize the pedal shifters on the steering to try and top the already up-the-ante top speed of 211 km/h. With fuel efficiency of 7.0 liters per 100 km, you don’t have to worry much about consumption whenever the adventurous side of you shows up.

As one of the safest SUVs around, the new 3008 has a 5-star Euro NCAP mark. For instance, the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) function swings into action to keep the car’s positioning on the road in check. Safety-wise, LDW is just the tip of the iceberg. The 3008 comes with six airbags, driver attention alert, hill assist descent control, anti-skid regulation, and dynamic stability control.

Parking the 3008 is a whole lot easier thanks to the Peugeot Park Assist with front and rear parking assist sensors and 180° reverse camera. In fact, if parking the 3008 is automated, that would’ve been a lot more fun.
