In looks, Renault’s flagship SUV comes in a new, vibrant Marron Red body color to go with the obvious SUV cues. The front is more assertive with C-shaped Pure Vision LED headlights with daytime running lights (DRL) and fog lights. The athletic profile of the Koleos is accentuated by 18-inch alloy wheels.
From the rear, the wide, horizontal tail lights amplify the impression of width and draw the eye to the Renault logo on the tailgate. Chrome inserts set into the lower part of the rear bumper take the shape of twin exhaust tail pipes, a detail that is complementary with Koleos’ overall exterior design. To top it off, LED tail lights feature Edge Light technology generates a clear, bright 3D effect. Inside, a whole host of refinement and features associated with premium cars are ample. The interior afford a spacious cabin, as well.
The 4WD Renault Koleos takes up the ALL-MODE 4×4-i technology, an unparalleled four-wheel drive technology that permanently monitors grip levels to ensure optimal traction for more dynamic performance, more effective stability and enhanced safety. New to the 4WD version also is a hands-free power tailgate. The power tailgate can be easily controlled via buttons from within the vehicle and directly on the power tailgate, as well as using the Renault Smart Keycard. Additionally, the boot can be opened with a simple swipe of the foot underneath the rear bumper while the height can be programmed according to individual needs.
The acclaimed ALL-MODE 4×4-i technology in the Renault Koleos 4WD variant is a technology that has been proven on millions of Renault-Nissan Alliance vehicles worldwide. The system includes an easy-to-use control switch, which allows drivers to choose from three modes: 2WD, 4WD Auto and 4WD Lock, each with its specific advantages based on driving conditions.
In addition, the ALL-MODE 4×4-i technology permanently monitors both longitudinal and lateral acceleration, as well as yaw rates and steering angles. Based on this information, the system calculates the ideal front/rear torque split (from 100/0 to 50/50) to provide the most efficient grip possible to eliminate understeer and oversteer.
When travelling off-road or in conditions where grip is at a premium, such as on mud and sand, the 4WD Lock mode allows the driver to engage permanent four-wheel drive at speeds of less than 40km/h to distribute available torque equally between the front and rear axles (50/50) for maximum stability.
Both the Renault Koleos 4WD and 2WD variants offer exceptional cabin space, an extensive range of equipment and painstaking attention to interior appointments to deliver all that is expected of a premium D-segment SUV.
In dimensions, the Koleos has a 2,705mm wheelbase and a length of 4,672mm; these are class-leading numbers. Thanks to a long wheelbase and length, the interior is evidently more spacious, The front seats of the Renault Koleos is amongst the segment’s most comfortable with dimensions, as well. Meanwhile, rear passengers are pampered with a knee-room of 289mm, which outclasses rival models, as well as generous head room, shoulder room and elbow room. The record cabin space of the Renault Koleos also allows for a large configurable boot and numerous practical storage solutions, thanks to a 542-liter trunk, expandable up to 1690 liters. On top of that, there’s a 35-liter additional storage space inside the Koleos, including an 11-liter glove box and a seven-liter cubby on the center console.
For the driver, an elevated driving position, 150mm higher than a traditional sedan, offers excellent visibility. Furthermore, the tall and wide dashboard imparts an added sense of strength and protection to drivers and front passenger. Other highlights include wide aperture of doors, premium materials all around, interior ambient LED lighting, a center console with a protective film and cushion-backed materials selected for the dashboard and door panels, as well as black leather upholstery and leather-trimmed armrests with contrast stitching.
Other interior goodies available include the R-LINK 2 multimedia system, an 8.7-inch portrait screen with navigation, voice recognition, charging ports, Bluettooth connectivity, a USB port, a 3.5mm jack socket, a 12V power supply and an SD card slot (depending on variants).
As with the 2WD version, the four-wheel drive version carries a 2.5-liter petrol engine (171 PS/226 Nm), mated to an X-Tronic CVT automatic transmission. The Koleos’ X-Tronic transmission performance more like a multi-ration automatic whenever the driver needs to accelerate briskly.
A complete list of active and passive safety features are available with the Koleos, including adaptive front airbags, all around airbags, whiplash headrests, anti-submarining front seats, ISOFIX, seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, Blind spot warning system, ESP, Braking assist and EBD, Hill Start Assist, Rear view camera and parking sensors. Meantime, the use of very high elastic limit steel for the engine frame and high-strength steel ensure ultimate protection for occupants.
