The New Mazda CX-30 is the second in line of Next-generation vehicles from the Hiroshima-based manufacturer. As Mazda’s newest compact SUV, the CX-30 carries a more updated KODO – Soul of Motion design cue and ample SKYACTIV Technologies. This model comes in between the CX-3 and the best-selling CX-5.
When it comes to looks, the CX-30 is a combination of a sleek crossover with the toughness of an SUV. Beneath a sleek upper body with the streamlines silhouette of a coupe, black cladding to the lower body creates an impression of stability, ruggedness and power appropriate to an SUV. From the rear, the fenders stand proud from the tapered cabin and the tailgate has a correspondingly narrowed arch shape. All LED headlights and rearlights have its own signature design. Wheel sizes range from 16- to 18-inches.
Mazda CX-30: Interior refinement
Moving inside, the CX-30 has a human-centric cabin featuring a clean, airy and open cabin space for passengers and a snug, focused, driver’s cockpit area. The cockpit and cabin combine a focus on ergonomics with trending technology in the design of everything from the driving position and field of view to the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and audio sound quality. For this model, there’s a newly developed 8-speaker Mazda Harmonic Accustics system and the 12-speaker BOSE premium audio system; depending on market region, the BOSE system probably comes with the top-spec CX-30. The Mazda Connect is ever present to bond all smart devices.
The upper area of the dashboard features a secondary, wing-shaped hood. Running horizontally from the top of the meter hood into the door trim on the passenger side and finished with high quality stitching and metallic accents, it gives the cockpit a more expansive feel. Meanwhile, a wide floor console groups the shift lever, cup holders and Commander control forward in a ‘control area’ close to the driver, while the gently curved knee rests and arm rest behind create a warm, contrasting atmosphere. At the same time, the gear shift panel features an evolved version of Mazda’s ‘two-layer moulding’ technology. Interior colors come standard and options are available as well. The boot has a 430-liter capacity.
Mazda CX-30: Engine options
The Mazda CX-30 has three engine options: SKYACTIV-G (122PS/213 Nm), 1.8l SKYACTIV-D (116PS/270 Nm) and SKYACTIV-X petrol with mild hybrid. All engines are paired to a 6-speed manual or auto transmission. The Skyactiv-G and Skyactiv-X are petrol engines. The Skyactiv-X is offered with Mazda’s innovative Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) technology. With Mazda M Hybrid System, it offers much improved efficiency, akin a mild hybrid. Coupled with the i-Activ AWD and G-Vectoring Control (GVC) or G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus), the CX-30 provides even more pleasant, comfortable ride and handling.
As a top-tiered compact SUV, the Mazda CX-30 features new Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture. This structure harnesses an inherent balance ability for greater on-board comfort. It also affords a reduction in, and control of, NVH facilitating a unique ‘quality of quietness’ in the cabin.
Safety is paramount for all Mazda models, the CX-30 is no exception with a comprehensive suite of i-Activsense active safety features including a newly added Driver Monitoring system. An impressive list of accident prevention, damage mitigation and driver support systems comprising standard and optional equipment put the CX-30 as one of the future Euro NCAP recipients.
At launch, the CX-30 comes in these body colors” Soul Red Crystal, Machine Grey, New Polymetal Grey, Snowflake White Pearl Mica, Titanium Flash Mica, Jet Black Mica, Deep Crystal Blue Mica, Arctic White and Sonic Silver Metallic.
