Carrying on from the outgoing version, the 2016 Ford Focus continues to take up the familiar sculpted hood and trapezoidal grille, with the DRLs (daytime running lights) and rectangle foglights. The profile of the Focus remains as aerodynamically-savvy as ever, thanks to a sleek, low-sloping front as well as protruding front and rear wheel arches. From the rear, the Focus attains new tailgate and slimmer rearlights for a more modern outlook. Overall, the 2016 Ford Focus is lower, wider and more chiseled when compared to its predecessor.
The interior of the 2016 Ford Focus gets a more simplistic layout, but don’t be thinking its just that plain… The simplified interior offers more space with a variety of new convenient storage compartments. An adjustable console fits ample small items and can hold a 1-liter bottle or a 400 ml cup. Furthermore, the cabin has been refined with sound deadening materials all-around and improved engine insulation.
Ford has up-the-ante on the new Focus with a host of smart technologies such as, SYNC2 with 8-inch touchscreen display with Voice Command, entertainment and auto climate control, BLIS (Blind Spot Information System), Ford MyKey and the enhanced Active Park Asssit. The BLIS, which uses radar, works to alert the driver by illuminating warning LEDs on the side mirrors, particularly when an oncoming vehicle approaches. On the other hand, the Active Park Assist, which now combines Parallel Park Assist with Perpendicular Park Assist, utilizes two ultrasonic sensors on the rear of the car to auto park. The driver only operates the brake pedal and the accelerator while the Park Assist does its thing.
Another active smart technology or safety feature on the Focus is the Active City Stop system. The Active City Stop system functions to mitigate low-speed collisions. Using a windshield-mounted sensor to detect braking, the system pre-charges the brakes to reduce or avoid a collision, at a speed of up to 50km/h.
The 2016 Ford Focus is powered by a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine that’s paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift for an output of 180PS and 240 Nm of torque. Despite somewhat of a downgrade from the previous Focus, the 1.5-liter EcoBoost with turbocharging, high pressure direct fuel injection and twin-independent Variable Cam Timing still does its bid to prove on power output capability and an uprated performance. Aided by the paddle shifter on steering and Electric Power steering, the Focus is a more intuitive car and Fun to drive, for that matter.
The 2016 Ford Focus retails from RM118,888 for the Focus Trend 5-door or sedan, whilst the Hatchback or Focus Titanium 4-door goes for RM 139,888. All prices do not include insurance or other charges. For a limited period, there’s a RM 3,000 cash rebate when you purchase the new Ford Focus.
