The New, second-generation Audi A5 Coupe is introduced to mark the launch of the second-generation of the four-ring marque’s most successful mid-size sports car model. The new Audi A5 Coupe features a modern and honed look that nevertheless remains true to its predecessor by combining sporty design and timeless elegance.
With the trademark wave-shaped shoulder line that is reminiscent of its predecessor, the new Audi A5 Coupé showcases perfectly balanced proportions with a long engine hood, stretched wheelbase and short overhangs that further highlight the pronounced wheel arches that underscore the vehicle’s sporting intentions. The sculpted Singleframe grille is also significantly flatter and wider than in the previous model, with optional LED or Matrix LED headlights with dynamic turn signals contributing to an instantly recognizable visage for the new Audi A5 Coupé. Standard equipment comes in the form of the xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights and LED rear lights.
The Audi A5 Coupé is also significantly more efficient than its predecessor, due in part to a reduction in overall curb weight by as much as 60 kilograms lighter than its predecessor based on advances in intelligent material composition and lightweight design. The second contributor to this coupé’s improved fuel consumption ratings is its sophisticated segment-leading aerodynamics, posting a slippery drag coefficient of just 0.25.
The interior of the new Audi A5 Coupé benefits from the increased dimensions and longer wheelbase, resulting in more generous space for driver and passengers alike. As is typical for Audi vehicles, interior build quality is uncompromisingly high. High-quality materials in a wide range of colors provide underscore the premium character of the mid-sized model. The horizontal architecture of the instrument panel and the continuous air vent strip also help create a wide sense of space whilst optional ambient lighting highlights the interior with a choice of 30 adjustable shades.
In addition, the luggage compartment offers a volume of 465 liters, 10 liters (0.4 cu ft) more than with the previous model. The rear seat has a 40:20:40 split and can be easily folded forward using levers in the luggage compartment. Audi also offers the two-door coupé with optional gesture control for opening the luggage compartment lid via a foot motion. The optional trailer hitch is electrically released at the press of a button.
Moving to the driver’s seat, the new Audi A5 Coupé is now available for the first time with the optional Audi virtual cockpit, a 12.3-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1,440 x 540 pixels. Together with the MMI navigation plus including 8.3-inch monitor on the center console, it forms the central information unit. Customers choosing MMI navigation plus automatically also get the hardware module Audi connect and the new Audi connect SIM, a SIM card permanently installed in the car. Other interior highlights include LED interior lights, standard Audi MMI radio plus with 7-inch MMI color display, three-spoke multifunction steering with paddle shifters, height-adjustable belt feeds, Audi Smartphone suite with optional wireless charging and the Bang & Olufsen sound system.
The new Audi A5 Coupé will launch with five engines; two TFSI and three TDI units, each developing between 140 kW (190 hp) to 210 kW (286 hp) and representing a performance increase of up to 17 percent, whilst also consuming up to 22 percent less fuel. These engines are also mated with drivetrain solutions tailor-made for each engine variant. Paired to either a manual six-speed gearbox or a seven-speed S tronic, the Audi A5 can be specced with front- or all-wheel drive. The eight-speed tiptronic is reserved for the top spec petrol and diesel engine Audi A5 Coupés. Of special note is the new Audi S5 Coupé, which introduces a newly developed 3.0 TFSI V6 engine developing 260kW (354 hp) for a performance in a league of its own, rocketing from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds.
An intelligent combination of different technologies enhances the safety, comfort and efficiency of the new Audi A5 Coupé. At the same time, Audi is also taking the next step toward piloted driving with a broad choice of innovative driver assistance systems defining the standards in the segment. Compared with the previous model, nearly all of the systems are either completely new or have been extensively updated. Furthermore, there’s the predictive efficiency assistant that helps the driver save fuel, along with Audi active lane assist and Stop&Go adaptive cruise control. Safety features that are new for the Audi A5 include park assist, cross traffic assist rear, exit warning, collision avoidance assist and turn assist as well as the Audi pre sense systems.
The new chassis is one of the highlights of the A5 Coupé, offering drivers optimal comfort with no compromise on performance or agility. Equally at home whether on winding mountain roads or long trips on the highway, the new Audi A5 Coupé now comes equipped with an electromechanical power steering for the first time, adapting according to the vehicle’s speed and providing highly precise road feedback. Additionally, Audi also offers an optional dynamic steering is also available, automatically adjusting gear ratios based on speed and steering angle, as well as an optional rear-axle sport differential for even more dynamic driving and precision.
The new Audi A5 Coupé will launch in Germany and additional European countries in the fourth quarter.
