allcarschannel The recent Shell Helix Driven to Extremes World Championship South African edition saw the Dutch Oil & Gas company treated 190 participants and guests from 23 countries to an unforgettable adventure on wheels and more. Multiple country contestants including the six winning entries from Malaysia joined in the festivities of the Shell Helix Driven to Extremes competition in Cape Town.

The Malaysian representatives who took off for Cape Town were Chew Yeah Fah, Ching Chi Yee, Ho Chee Kin, Ho Yung Shih, and Sarfarizal Md Saad; who had each won the local chapter of the Shell Helix “Can You Handle the Extreme?” contest held from 1 March till 31 May, accompanied by the purchase of either a 4-liter Shell Helix Ultra or a choice from the Helix HX7 range of lubricants: Hx7, HX7 E and HX7 Diesel. Needless to say, the Malaysian competitors were no match for the world’s elites in extreme driving as Team Deutschland (Germany) took the overall title and was crowned the 2013 Shell Driven to Extremes World Championship’s best overall extreme driving nation.

Shell Helix Driven to Extreme South African edition emulates the Driven to Extremes reality TV show

Shell Helix Driven to Extremes consisted a bespoke series of extreme driving and expedition challenges that gave contestants a taste of the tasks and obstacles faced by the professional drivers and celebrities portrayed in the Shell Helix Driven to Extremes TV series.

The respective country representatives were required to take part in 2-day extreme driving challenge cum expedition designed to assess their ability across different terrains, including sand dunes and mountain tracks. They also received invaluable tips from professional driving instructors along the way. Driver concentration and awareness were put to the test in a number of precision and finesse driving challenges, as was the ability to work as a team to complete various simulated expedition requirements, including a bridge build and a water retrieval task. Besides all the hard work during the actual competition, the participants from each country did get a five-star treatment in the off days courtesy of Shell Helix; from accommodation to an opportunity to explore the many scenic Cape Town landscape and the absolutely breathtaking Table Mountain.
