Shell Can you handle the Extreme? Shell Lubricants last week kicked off two interesting campaigns for the year: the Shell Rimula ‘Win the Ride of Your Life’ and the Shell Helix ‘Can You Handle the Extreme?’.

The Shell ‘Win the Ride of Your Life’ focuses on the newly introduced Shell Rimula R4 engine oil for heavy and industrial vehicles. This latest engine oil is purposeful for triple protection against acid control and corrosion; deposits; and engine wear. Part of the market-leading Shell Rimula range of high performance heavy duty diesel engine oils which included the Shell Rimula R5 LE and Rimula R6 LM, the Shell Rimula R4 is formulated with additives and chemicals to ensure the right level of engine cleanliness, wear and oxidation protection under tough conditions. The engine oil is most suitable for heavy trucks, buses and vehicles utilized at construction sites.

Technically, how effective is the Shell Rimula R4 formula…to put it in easier terms, the newest lubricant simply assists to prevent oil thickening and the formation of harmful deposits in all areas of the engine, including the bulk oil in the sump and the thin oil films at high temperatures in the piston ring belt area. It provides effective soot disperse through the use of optimized levels of selected dispersant additives and enables protection at higher soot levels (up to 6%), as demonstrated in EGR engine specification tests. Further, the Rimula R4 has anti-wear additives that form protective films in metal-to-metal contacts under different engine operating conditions. The API CI-4 specification compliant Shell Rimula R4 X also meets a wider range of industry and original equipment manufacturers’ (OEM) specifications, including Caterpillar ECF-2 and JASO DH-1.

From 1 April until 30 June, six chosen winners of the Shell Rimula ‘Win the Ride of Your Life’ get an opportunity of a lifetime to receive an all-expense paid trip to the beautiful city of Prague, Czech Republic and ride in one of the 2013 European Truck Racing championship trucks at the Autodrom Most circuit, which is situated in the northwest of the Czech Republic. All truckers or heavy vehicle operators are encouraged to stop over at the Shell Rimula roadtrip at a highway rest area during the 3-month period for further details.

Chia Uen-Li, Cluster General Manager-Shell Lubricants SEA-South, commented, “Maintaining cleanliness in an engine is crucial for operating efficiency and wear control. Shell Rimula R4 X’s optimised detergent additive system uses detergents to reduce piston deposits, and soot dispersants to reduce sludge deposits in various parts of heavy-duty diesel engines more effectively and efficiently than ever.”
