The impressive list of safety and protection systems of the Lexus RX entail unprecedented active safety and driver assistance provisions. And the main highlight is none other than the Panoramic View Monitor, which provides real-time 360-degree and bird’s eye views of the vehicle’s surroundings.
In addition, Lexus first Sway Warning system detects driver distraction and drowsiness while the Lexus Safety System provides an exceptional array of systems to forewarn the driver, protecting against the risk of accidents and mitigating the consequences if an impact should occur. And that’s not all, owners of the Lexus RX now get even more protection thanks to the RX’s plethora of advanced technologies, for example; the aforementioned 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor, which works in tandem with the Lexus Park Assist, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The available protection and assistance package, which includes up to twelve elements, is part of the new RX’s advanced driver assistance systems; the most comprehensive package yet featured in the variant.
Then there’s the Sway Warning for Lexus RX, another first. The Sway warning detects signs of driver drowsiness. It uses the same monitors as the Lane Keep Assist/Lane Departure Alert to track the car’s position within highway lane markings and detect if the vehicle wanders unintentionally out of its lane. To help guard against the risk of an accident, it automatically sounds a warning and triggers an alert on the multi-information display to prompt the driver to take immediate action.
The new RX is equipped with Lexus Safety System +, a multi-feature, integrated safety package that delivers exceptional levels of active safety and driver assistance to help prevent accidents happening. The Automatic high beam, for instance, detects oncoming traffic and vehicles ahead and automatically switches the headlights between high and low beam. The Auto high beam can be upgraded to an Adaptive High Beam system, which gives even better illumination by adjusting light distribution to avoid dazzling other road users.
At the heart of the Lexus Safety System + is the Pre-Crash Safety system with Pre-Crash Brake Assist, which utilizes a front-mounted camera and proximity-wave radar to detect vehicles and pedestrians on the road in front. Working in tandem with the Pre-Crash Brake Assist, the system calculates a risk of a collision and automatically warns the driver to take evasive action.
Similarly, the Adaptive Cruise Control kicks in to assist the driver to maintain a safe proximity from the vehicle in front. While, the Adaptive Cruise Control working with Lane Departure Alert (LDA) and Lane-Keeping Assist (LKA) functions to keep the car on the right lane or track. Last but least, the RX’s safety package has the Road Sign Assist system that beams information on the multi-information display, via the SUV’s front camera. The Road sign assist practically assists the driver to take precautionary measurements; in view of speed limits, road closures and other road obstacles.
