Anyways, Motor Image couldn’t have picked a better time and place to engage the right crowd about their latest Sports car – the Subaru BRZ. In presence of the BRZ, Subaru GT300 drivers and the luscious Racequeens, the Subaru hub at the Sepang International Circuit’s welcome center on Saturday became one of the more attractive booths.
The Subaru BRZ (Boxer, Rear-wheel Drive, Zenith), also seen on the Toyota GT86 platform, is the brand’s rear-wheel sports car that is incorporated with the horizontally-opposed Boxer powerplant. A jointly effort between Subaru and Toyota, the BRZ’s looks entail a low center of gravity and a sleek profile with all the right curves at relevant contours. The low center of gravity is obviously for more precise handling and much road grip when extreme cornering. The BRZ’s lower center of gravity is made possible by integrating the streamlined exterior design, roofline, seat positioning and the flat, horizontally-opposed powerplant. In addition, the forward-thrusting shape of the Subaru BRZ corresponds to an optimized airflow which plays a part in the car’s aerodynamics. Pertinent highlights are; HID headlights with Auto Leveler, 17-inch alloy wheels and the large rear muffler cutter.
Interior-wise, the driver is guaranteed good views from all angles thanks to an intelligent layout of the dashboard, seats and cabin amenities and conveniences, which include keyless access with push button start, dual zone automatic air-conditioning with anti-dust filter, paddle shifters, Digital speed meter & Multi-Information Display with 6-speaker audio system, aluminium pedals, cruise control, and USB, Aux input jacks in the center console box.
The Subaru BRZ is powered by an FA engine which is the first engine to combine Toyota’s direct and port fuel injection technology. Fully utilizing the design concept of Subaru’s new generation Boxer engine, the FA engine, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, is highly efficient with sufficient power output and environmental friendliness. The 2.0-liter engine can push 200 PS at 7,000 rpm and 205 Nm of torque between 6,400 – 6,600. Fuel efficiency and emissions ratings are accorded 7.1 L/100km and 164 g/km respectively.
When it comes to handling and stability, you’d expect Subaru to apply its years of expertise in these areas. As the Subaru BRZ is made out to be a pure sports car with exemplary steering response and a car that provides lots of driving pleasure for a wide range of customer demographics, Subaru has instilled a high-tensile steel structure to ensure that the BRZ has a lightweight and rigid body, as well as an able chassis. Front MacPherson struts, rear double wishbone and ventilated discs assure that the car can take very tight maneuvering and perform effective stopping.
Driver aid and electronic systems incorporated in the Subaru BRZ consist of the advanced VSC (Vehicle Stability Control). Driver-set Rev indicator and LSD (Limited-slip Differential). SRS front, side, curtain and knee airbags (driver only), as well as ISOFIX rear seats protect the occupants and children on board the Subaru BRZ.
The new Subaru BRZ retails at RM239,800 at all Subaru showrooms nationwide. Visit the Subaru headquarters at 10, Jalan 51A/223, 46100 Petaling Jaya, Selangor to appreciate the BRZ up close & personal and ask for a possible test drive.
