Suzuki Swift tops five-million mark globally

Suzuki-SWIFT-GLX-front-view_resize One of the world’s most popular Compacts the Suzuki Swift has amassed five million units sold globally. The Suzuki Swift is a world strategic model that was first built in Japan in 2004 with production bases expanding the year after to Hungary, India and China. Production then commenced in Malaysia in 2007, Pakistan in 2009, Thailand in 2012 and Vietnam in 2014.

Across the globe, 11 per cent of Swift sales are in Japan, around 50 per cent in India and 19 per cent across Europe. Swift is on sale in 140 countries and has won more than 70 awards.

In Malaysia, the final revision of the Swift was completed in September 2015 in the form of the Swift RR2 limited edition. The Limited-edition Swift takes up the current generation’s overall versatility and is available as a fourth version of the Swift range, which included the Swift GA, GL and GLX.

The limited edition Swift RR2 sports the same specifications as the new Swift GL, with the added trendy features such as; 16-inch Gun-Metallic wheels, sporty front and side decals and body kit with wheel arch extensions to distinguish it from the other Swifts. The top flight Swift GLX gets the bulk of the exciting features reserved for the model: a front bumper with integrated LED- and fog-lights, retractable side mirror with indicator, special 16-inch wheels, and a myriad of colors (Lagoon Turquoise, Supreme Red, Olive Gray, Bayside Blue and Superior White).

All four versions, including the Swift RR2, run on a 1.4-liter petrol engine with a maximum output of 95PS at 6,000rpm and offer a 5.2m minimum turning radius, making it the versatile city compact. Drivers can also expect a full range of the standard Swift features such as; 42 liters large fuel tank capacity, 211 liters (Seatback Raised) luggage capacity, dual SRS airbags, Brake Assist (BA) Function and Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Braking Distribution System (EBD).

The Suzuki Swift’s prices in the country start at RM 59,000 for the GA version, 65,000 for the GL, the RR2 limited edition is tagged RM 69,888 and the GLX at RM 73,000. However, Suzuki Malaysia has since joined forces with National carmakers Proton and is expected to cease distribution of Suzuki vehicles in the country.
