When people talk about the Isuzu D-Max, the first thing that comes into people’s mind is the durability and efficiency of the pick up. Being one of the oldest automotive brands in Japan, Isuzu has practically changed the truck/pick up segment globally and domestically. Isuzu Malaysia today introduced the most compact, efficient and robust diesel engine for its most popular pick up model.
What’s new about the 1.9L engine compared to the old 2.5L unit?
- 10% more power
- 9% more torque
- 19% better fuel efficiency
- 6% quieter
- 56kg lighter
- 37% less internal friction
With all these changes, it translates to more durability, more environmental friendly, less emission and cheaper maintenance. The 1.9L Isuzu D-Max is the first pickup truck to be certified an EEV, based on UN Regulations 101 and Road Transport Dept of Malaysia’s Energy Efficient Vehicle status.
The Isuzu D-Max range has now been updated to 11 variants, starting from the 1.9L low ride 4×2 manual all the way up to the 4×4 Auto Premium that comes with 1.9L and 3.0L engines. The 2019 D-Max line-up comes with new exterior paint colors including Sapphire Blue, Red Spinel, Stallion Black, Titan Silver, Silky White Pearl, and Magnum White.
On the outside, new items are the front grille, headlight cluster with bi-LED projector lights and LED DRLs and fog light garnish. Fresh wheels in 18-inch sizes, folding door mirrors and decals complete the sides. At the rear, there is an optional tailgate assist for easy access.
Inside, Isuzu added additional soft touch materials on major panels to make the interior more plush with much improved NVH. The seats are made of a combi of leather and fabric to make the interior more inviting and comfortable. Rear passengers also get a secondary charging port, situated behind the center armrest.
The new Isuzu D-Max 1.9L RZ4E-TC engine produces 150PS at 3,600rpm and 350Nm at 1,800-2,600 rpm. A new 6 speed manual or automatic transmission works within the engine power band to provide better acceleration and overtaking while offering a relaxed cruising from it’s two overdrive top gears.
To cope with slippery slopes, the D-Max now comes with Hill Descent Control (HDC) to make life as easy as possible. There is also a Vehicle Launch Assist Control that makes going up gradients of 25% or more from standstill easy by controlling the torque.
