At a glance of the Volkswagen Golf GTi, the recognizable red stripe at the bottom of the front grille that stretches through the headlights is a definite GTi exclusive, as does the re-designed bumper with tauter black mesh stripes over the fog lights. Going on to the side, the GTi badge on the front feeder and side window signal light are the two most prominent features. From the rear, the GTI rear spoiler with black border around the rear windscreen, rear light clusters in dark red, double rounded exhaust and a renewed rear bumper, as well as 18-inch Austin wheels and 225/40R18 tyres complete the GTi’s astonishingly good looks. Looking through the rims, you’d see red painted brake calipers; another GTi distinguishing factor.

Volkswagen Golf GTi 7th generation 2.0 TSI engine

A 2.0 TSI engine with 6-speed DSG transmission powers the front-wheeled GTi to a nominal 220PS and 350 Nm of torque (a 70 Nm increase from the 6th-gen GTi). This translates to a 0 – 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds and top speed of 244 km/h; up 6 km/h from its predecessor. While the power output and torque had increased, the 7th-gen Golf GTi unequivocally consumes less fuel and emits lower emissions at 6.4 liters (that’s 14 percent lesser than the previous edition) and 148 g/km, respectively. Combined with the hot hatch’s Stop/Start system and lightweight construction thanks to the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB), the Golf GTl has lost 42kg of weight compared to the 6th-gen, which equates to a more decent fuel economy.

With the progressive steering that’s enhanced with XDS+ vehicle dynamics, the Golf GTi is seriously fun for aggressive drives and certainly not for the faint hearted!
