|Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors have released the all-new Santa Fe 7-seater mid-size SUV to the domestic market. The new Hyundai Santa Fe, also known as the DM in Hyundai’s home country Korea, first debut at the New York Motor show in April 2012.|
The all-new Santa Fe is the third generation of Hyundai’s most well-represented SUV variant in the world. Based on Hyundai’s design philosophy, Fluidic Sculpture, the new Santa Fe adopts its own design concept called “Storm Edge,” which captures the strong and dynamic images created by nature during the formation of a storm. From the front, the recognizable hexagonal grille represents current Hyundai cars’ identity. At the same time, the sculpted HID headlights with LED-strips and a two-tone front bumper define the SUV’s sporty demeanor. When viewed from the side, the character lines, which included the roof railing and predominantly black ‘skirt’, lend the mid-size SUV a fulfilling purpose in an aerodynamic sense. At the rear, details include a sporty twin muffler with double exhaust tips, a diffuser-style moulding beneath the bumper, and an LED rear spoiler with a high-mounted stop lamp.
Inside, the new Hyundai Santa Fe features ample cabin space that fits 7 occupants and a huge enough boot space. Hyundai has implemented a sophisticated feel in the cockpit area, which comprises the eye-catching steering, a 4.2-inch TFT LCD display, supervision cluster and a dual-zone a/c switch. Other pertinent interior features include automatic rain sensor, smart key, engine start button, cruise control, a 12-way power adjustable driver seat with lumbar support and ‘Nappa’ leather seats, as well as a Safe Drive Recorder.
The new Hyundai Santa Fe comes in two engine options: the R 2.2 E-VGT diesel version and the Theta II 2.4 MPI petrol version. The R 2.2 VGT diesel engine delivers 197hp at 3,800 rpm and up to 436Nm of torque at 1,800 ~ 2,500 rpm, while the Theta II 2.4 MPI delivers 176hp at 6,000 rpm and up to 226Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm. All Santa Fe engines are mated to Hyundai’s six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC.
Driving dynamics are ascertained by the available drive modes; Comfort, Normal and Sport, all thanks to the Flex Steer feature. Active safety equipment on board consist of Active On-Demand 4-Wheel Drive System, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system, Hillstart Assist Control (HAC), Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) with an Automatic Vehicle Hold feature.
Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors offer the new Santa Fe in four variants; Theta II 2.4 Elegance at RM163, 888, Theta II 2.4 Executive Plus at RM177, 888, R 2.2 VGT Elegance at RM176, 888, and R 2.2 VGT Executive Plus at RM189, 888. All variants listed with on-the-road with insurance prices, including a 5-year or 300,000km (whichever comes first) warranty, and the Hyundai’s extended warranty whenever applicable and a 24-hour road assist service.
