UMW Toyota Motor has announced a price reduction for the 2017 Toyota Fortuner by a whopping RM 16,000 from its base retail price of RM 175,400. The price reduction is enabled by the Government’s incentive for EEV (Energy Eficient Vehicle), which has been bestowed on the Fortuner model.

Since its introduction in May 2016, the Toyota Fortuner, available in two variants 2.4VRZ and 2.7VRZ, has originally been an MPV (Multi-purpose Vehicle) project outside of Japan. The Fortuner shares a similar platform with the Hilux.

As an EEV status model, the Fortuner 2.7-liter petrol engine and 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine have been tuned to achieve high fuel efficiency. The model’s 80-liter fuel tank capacity is more than sufficient for long distance drives and weekend getaways. Additionally, with the 6-speed electronically-managed automatic transmission, gear selection is always optimized to enhance fuel efficiency.

In looks, the new Fortuner fairs way, way better than its predecessor, thanks to a refined front- and back-end. The front highlights a thin upper grille to match the front bumper and the dynamically-styled headlights (2.7VRZ with LED projectors and integrated DRLs and 2.4VRZ halogen and DRLs). Both versions’ headlights got Auto Light technology, while the 2.7 comes with puddle lights. The raked profile of the new Fortuner are highlighted by the side-stepper, roof railing, triangular-shaped C-pillar and 17- or 18-inch wheels (2.4 and 2.7). From the rear, the classy LED combination lights capture immediate attention from onlookers, then there’s the new Fortuner logo, high-mount stop light and powered tailgate. Further to that, Aero-stablizing fins on the door mirrors and light housings provide much improved airflow.

The 2017 Toyota Fortuner has a bolder and more elegant interior, all attributed to soft-touch materials, metallic accents, wood grain-patterned trims and a refined center console. The Fortuner 2.7VRZ is fitted with an instrument cluster with optitron meters has plated rings, while the base Fortuner has backlit meters with plated rings. An Eco Light is added to the foray for good measures. A four-spoke telescopic steering is standard for both Fortuners, but the 2.7 receives paddle shifters, as well as a wood grain patterned and leather-wrapped steering. For upholstery, the Fortuner 2.7 has an 8-way adjustable driver seat and the 2.4, a 6-way type.

Thanks to an overall height of 1,835mm and length of 4,795mm, occupants are guaranteed extra head- and leg-room.

In term of safety, the Fortuner has been rated 5 stars by ASEAN NCAP for its improved structural strength and enhanced safety features which provide the best possible protection for the occupants. The model has a reinforced chassis frame which maintains the toughness or QDR (Quality, Durability & Reliability) of the model while comfort has been significantly improved not just with suspension revisions but also better sound insulation for much quieter cabin.

As the Fortuner is rather new in the domestic market, the specifications for the 2017 model are unchanged. The top grade (2.7) includes Bi-LED headlights, Power Back Door, 7 SRS airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and 6-speed sequential automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

The Toyota Fortuner 2.4 VRZ retails for RM 175,400, while the 2.7 SRZ goes for RM RM 183,800. All include a full 5 years warranty with unlimited mileage.
