In a nutshell, the Supra GR is about a combination of a short wheelbase and wide track, light weight, low center of gravity and a highly rigid body.

The new-gen Supra GR is fitted with a single twin-scroll turbocharger, which powers 340 DIN hp (whatever the heck it means) and 500 Nm of torque. The transmission is an  eight-speed automatic transmission.

When the Supra Is in development, the guys at Toyota Racing did plenty of work at the Nürburgring Nordschleife to extract the best out of their new sports car.

2019 Toyota Supra GR: Designed to be Iconic

The Supra carries a “Condensed Extreme” design, highlighting on its compact and powerful persona. Inside, the purpose is to put the driver at the center of the action.

The Supra GR gets its design theme from the FT-1 Concept, which was first showcased at the NAIAS 2014. Clear motifs of the Supra are long wheelbase, large wheels, a wide stance, two-seater, a  long bonnet, a drivetrain with in-line six engine and rear-wheel drive. It’s notable that the GR version’s wheelbase is in fact shorter than in the GT86 coupe and that the tyres are larger.

New to the GR Supra are the six-lens LED headlights with indicators and DRLs, the Shell-like front wings,  low beltline, forward-angled underbody, blacked-out A-pillars and character lines on the roof, as well as sturdy made sills. The GR Supra comes with 19-inch forged alloy wheels with alternating black and polished slim spokes.

The rear defining highlights are arching spoiler, the bumper’s trapezoid shape and combi lights with fog lights and reverse lights form a dot-LEDs in the center of the lower bumper.

Yhere are seven body colors for the GR Supra, including Prominence Red, Lightning Yellow, Deep Blue Metallic and new Matt Storm Grey.

Interior-wise, it’s all about driver-centric elements and those racing car features.  The highlights include a HUD display, an 8.8-inch instrument display with touch controls or via center console knob, tight-grip steering and a sufficient boot space.

Race car elements for the GR Supra feature racing-inspired seats with all the necessary bolsters, leather and alcantara mix.

The 3.0-liter GR Supra has Active differential, Adaptive Variable Suspension and sports braking system for optimum performance and ride quality.

The engine uses direct injection with a 35 MPa high-pressure system that provides spray atomisation and precise injection control for high combustion efficiency. Furthermore, the design of the twin-scroll turbocharger divides the path from the exhaust manifold to the turbine into two parts.

To aid drive exhilaration, the GR Supra got a launch control, VSC with “track” setting and a dedicated ECU to monitor a wide range of inputs.

2019 Toyota Supra GR: Chassis designed for optimum balance

Prioritizing the car’s agility and handling, the engineers have come up with a ratio of between 1.5 and 1.6; achieving the 1.55 ‘golden ratio’ was thus the starting point for the GR Supra.  Several key factors have been enhanced through the development stages, including a higher chassis structural rigidity, an ideal 50:50 balance, a robust suspension system (double-joint spring MacPherson fronts/five-link rear), high-performance wheel hubs and mixed tyre combination.

Last but not least, the braking system fitted as standard are the red aluminium Brembo callipers (four-piston at the front and floating single-piston at the rear). The ventilated discs measure 348 x 36 mm at the front and 345 x 24 mm at the rear. The parking brake is electric.

All kinds of driver assistance and safety are included like ABS, Brake Assist, VSC, Traction Control, Hill-start Assist Control, Active Cornering Assist and more. The Safety+ package is standard.

The Supra GR is offered in two high-performance grades: Active and Premium. Both comes with Supra Connect and CarPlay.According to Toyota, deliveries of the GR Supra are expected in Q2 and the model is manufactured in Graz, Austria.
