|UMW Toyota Motor very recently held a Christmas and Holidays treat for children from two shelter organizations. The children from Trinity Children Center and St. Barnabas Home were treated to a special X’mas gathering and shopping spree at PJ’s Paradigm mall, a day prior to X’mas.|
The X’mas annual festive & holiday celebration was organized as part of the UMW Toyota Motor’s commitment to its burgeoning CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programs and also to inculcate a spirit of volunteerism and community service among the company’s personnel. Over 20 volunteers from UMW Toyota Motor played host to 40 children from the two invited shelter homes during the special gathering and shopping spree at the mall. After a productive shopping spree, the children between 6 to 17 years of age was all excited again at the fun X’mas dinner, which featured a full course at TGIF (TGI Friday’s) and sweet treats. The kids were then presented with back-to-school items at the conclusion of the TGIF session.
The volunteers from UMW Toyota Motor were each assigned two children from the homes. Their task for the day included; accompanying the children on a shopping spree, aiding the younger ones on necessities and more. More importantly, this outreach program enabled the volunteers to foster close ties with the children and promote the spirit of giving and sharing amongst the kids and participants.
President of UMW Toyota Motor Dato’ Ismet Suki commented, “Some are orphans and have no place to call home, while others are from broken homes or single parent family. Although most welfare homes take care of their charges well in terms of their basic needs in the form of food, shelter and education, they find it difficult to fulfill the emotional void of the children, especially during festive seasons”.
“Through this X’mas and holidays outreach program, we hope to touch the children’s hearts and make a positive impact in their lives where the message of “Hope” and “Love” are felt by all,” he added.
The Staff Volunteer Program is part of the philanthropic pillar of UMW Toyota Motor’s CSR initiatives. UMW Toyota Motor’s commitment to CSR has been an integral part of its corporate culture since 1990. Its CSR approach resonates with its philosophy of ‘A history of service to society’, where UMW Toyota Motor continually seeks opportunities to contribute to the communities.
