First premiere of the new Volkswagen Passat, Golf GTE and e-Up! in the country
Showcased for the first time in the country, the Passat B8 Executive Sedan kickstarted the Pledge, along with the e-Up! and the Golf GTE. The new Passat, previewed at this year’s Paris Motor Show, showcases a revitalized design, a new engine and several new technologies such as new driver assistance systems, and infotainment and comfort systems.
The Passat B8 was joined on stage by the Golf GTE, the first plug-in hybrid from the Wolfsburg-based marque, to land on Malaysian shores. A fusion of sportiness and sustainability, the Golf GTE possesses the exceptional performance inherited from the Golf GTI and has the zero emission option on E-mode. With fuel consumption of only 1.5l per 100 km and a distant range of 939 km in hybrid mode, the Golf GTE delivers a maximum speed of 222 km/h and accelerates 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. The car does not require any special infrastructure for charging and only requires 4 hours to charge full with any conventional socket. The Golf GTE is expected to join VWGM’s (Volkswagen Group Malaysia) line-up in the first quarter of next year.
In the country, VWGM distributes 15 variants, comprising the iconic Beetle to the Sharan MPV. And working with domestic partners DRB-Hicom, VWGM has made available four locally-assembled variants; consisting the Passat, Polo Sedan, Polo Hatchback and Jetta.
The e-Up! certainly turned a few brows at the Pledge when it zoomed out to stage. The e-Up! represents the interpretation of Volkswagen’s environmental protection mission with three “zero indicators”. Exhibiting zero emissions, zero fuel consumption and zero noise, Volkswagen’s most advanced electric car provides a high torque of 210Nm and offers a continued cruise of up to 157km.
Interestingly, the Always by Your Side pledge was also a platform for VWGM to stress on major improvements in the areas of Sales and After Sales. As part of the Pledge’s redefined ownership and brand experience, VWGM has initiated plenty of relevant programs in the country such as the Volkswagen Experts, Mobility Guarantee and Daily Order and Delivery programs. In time to come, VWGM is committed to implementing the five major pillars, with an investment budget of RM20 million in 3 years, to strengthen its sales and after sales roadmaps. The five pillars include recruit more local talents, establish state-of-the-art Technical Competence facilities, introduce a Volkswagen Brand Store and more Parts Centers, improvise Service Concierge, and increase investment in training, development of the sales and technical staff at VW dealerships.
Acknowledging Child Safety to the fullest
Also part of the Pledge, Volkswagen is joining forces with the Association of Registered Childcare Providers Malaysia (ARCPM) or Persatuan Pengasuh Berdaftar Malaysia (PPBM) to initiate a national campaign on Child Safety. As the first pledge to the cause, VWGM donated 200 VW child safety seats to PPBM; an NGO organization. Next, VWGM and PBBM will embark to roll out the important child safety educational module to 280 childcare centers nationwide.
