|Volkswagen Group Malaysia announced its intentions to title sponsor the 2013 Marathon Series.|
Entitled the Volkswagen Marathon series 2013 on Volkswagen Malaysia’s third year involvement in the series, the Wolfsburg-based Auto marque has intended for the Marathon series to showcase its commitment to “Think Blue.” and its support towards the appreciation of nature.
As title sponsors of the series, Volkswagen Group Malaysia (VWGM) supplied vehicles for safety, medical and logictics purposes. The range of Volkswagens for the Marathon series’ first leg in Langkawi included the Volkswagen Polo Sedan 1.6l, Passat, Cross Touran, and maybe more.
“Think Blue.”, an initiative by the Volkswagen Group, was brought forth to this country by VWGM in October last year. For this special initiative, VWGM unveiled the Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid to exhibit the technological aspects of the VW Hybrid and the “Think Blue.” program.
The Marathon Series began with “The River Jungle Marathon” in 2011, and at this time VWGM first decided to sponsor the runners’ event. Fast forward two years, VWGM is now the title sponsor of the Marathon series and September’s “The River Jungle Marathon”.
Dr Zeno Kerschbaumer, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Malaysia mentioned, “Taking the time to spend on fitness is vital in achieving a healthy lifestyle. And this augurs well with an individual’s quest of striving for the best.“
“These are fundamental to an environmentally responsible lifestyle. It is a stepping stone in learning to appreciate nature and understand the need to be environment friendly,“ he added.
The “Volkswagen Marathon Series 2013” consists of two breath-taking boutique runs, double of what was offered in 2011 and 2012. There are two parts to the Marathon series: the Island Ocean Marathon, held on 21 April, and the River Jungle Marathon, happening on 1 September.
The Island Ocean marathon in Langkawi on 21 April saw some 1,000 runners take part in the Volkswagen themed “Think Blue.” marathon, which denotes an attitude that goes beyond technologies and products to influence a lifestyle of sustainability. The participating runners put their stamina, wits to the test at the 42.195km scenic route of the Langkawi beachfront.
