Volkswagen Passat is refreshed for the better

 allcarschannel The refreshed Volkswagen Passat today premiered on the domestic scene, as announced by Volkswagen Group Malaysia. Based on the imported version of 2011 and the locally-assembled Passat of 2012, the Passat variant has raked in some 6,000 units to date on the local front. With the 2014 Passat on the horizon, the Group is confident that the variant’s numbers would increase further. The 2014 Volkswagen Passat features the TSI engine and 7-speed DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) like its smaller siblings; the Golf and Polo.

The Passat offers drivers enhanced connectivity, safety and comfort features. In terms of connectivity, the integrated multimedia unit now encompasses Bluetooth, telephony, audio streaming and hands-free communication. Comfort-wise, there’s a 12-way adjustable electric front seats with memory for the driver’s seat and ample legroom for the rear occupants.

On the car’s security front, the Passat is now improved with anti-theft alarm system with electronic immobilizer offering maximum protection against vehicle theft. Another notable enhanced feature is the sedan’s electric folding exterior mirrors.

Equipped with a 1.8-liter TSI 160PS turbocharged direct petrol injection 4-cylinder engine, the Passat produces maximum torque of 250Nm kicking in from a low 1500rpm all the way to 4200rpm. This efficient engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG, enabling this sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 8.5 seconds; and is capable in reaching a top speed of 220km/h. The combination of the TSI and DSG places the Passat at the forefront of Volkswagen’s fuel efficiency, returning a frugal 7.0l/100km on the combined cycle or 14.3 km per liter.

The Passat is available in 6 color choices: Candy White, Light Brown, Reflex Silver, Deep Black, Black Oak Brown and Icelandic Grey. Price tag for the Passat is RM 169,888, plus a 5-year warranty which is subjected to VWGM’s terms and condition.
