2013 Volvo Polestar-edition V60_2 Volvo yesterday announced the S60 and V60 Polestar-edition, set for sale in several countries on four continents. Canada, the Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the USA are the first countries set to distribute the Polestar-edition S60 and V60.

The Polestar-edition S/V60 stemmed from Volvo’s motorsports involvement in the WTCC (World Touring Cars Championship) and STCC (Swedish Touring Cars Championship). The car is based on the latest generation Volvo S/V60 and marks the start of an extended Polestar production variant range. Development of the car has been ongoing over the past years, picking up from the C30 and S60 Concept cars and the Australian S60 Polestar.

The cars have clocked thousands of development kilometers through the twisty mountain roads, on the Autobahn and test tracks from the south of Europe to the frozen north of Sweden.

Upgrades include modifications made to increase rigidity of the chassis to cater for the 80% stiffer springs relative to the standard S60 R-Design. These changes combined with the tailored high performance Öhlins shock absorbers and 20” Polestar wheels results in a precise, yet comfortable, driving experience. For ultimate stopping power, the Polestar-edition takes up the 371 millimeter ventilated front discs and six-piston Brembo calipers, as well as the rear’s ventilated discs.

The Polestar-edition cars have received proper wind tunnel testings, resulting in the updated input of fresh front splitters to optimize the airflow underneath the car, new rear spoiler and diffusor. Inside, the Polestar-edition cars have been reworked with new details, materials and Polestar colors, such as the steering, seats and etcetera, with the sole purpose of increasing driver support and control.

A 6-cylinder bi-turbo and six-speed fast shift automatic transmission with new paddle shifters powertrain enables the Polestar-edition cars to hit an output of 350 hp/257 kW at 5700 rpm and 500 Nm at 2800 rpm of torque. The six-speed gearbox features the Polestar developed Haldex four-wheel drive system and recalibrated traction control system for an active driving experience and maximum grip in any road conditions.
