|The new Volvo V40 is one of the marque’s 2013 variants that’s been brought forth to the country by Volvo Car Malaysia. The new Volvo V40 is offered in three versions; the V40 T4, V40 T5 and the Cross Country.|
As Volvo’s mantra ‘Volvo for Life’ goes, the new V40 has been instilled with some of the most enhanced safety and driver’s assistance systems such as Enhanced Blind Spot Information System, Cross Traffic Alert, City Safety, Crash safety features and Park Assist Pilot. These systems undeniably earned the new Volvo V40 car a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. Volvo, too, had a Vision 2020, as it is the Swedish marque’s vision to ensure that no-one is seriously injured or killed whilst driving a Volvo by 2020.
Volvo V40 shares semblance of the S60
The new Volvo V40 shares the illustrious Volvo S60’s design motifs, although the front fascia and edges are slightly lowered, a bit wider and more pronounced. The blade-like front headlights and overall motifs of the V40 not only attract on-lookers based on its sporty demeanor, but for its dynamic presentation too. The sculpted bodywork is evident on the side profile, and as for improvement of airflow, the Volvo V40 has sculptured corners that blend nicely with the protruding wheel arches. Side and rear of the car highlights include a sloping silhouette, an integrated ‘hook’ towards the rear, the unmistakable Volvo rearlights. Interestingly, the integrated hook motif of the V40 is inherited from the P1800, an archived Volvo.
During development operations with the new V40, Volvo paid careful attention to the feedback received from their customers especially in terms of the looks they would prefer for the car. In a particularly tough market segment, the new V40 sets a high benchmark contrasting beautiful design with functional proportions, and on top of this, an agile new chassis which makes driving a joy, by producing a car specifically designed with the drivers’ needs in sharp focus. Everything a driver can feel, touch and control, is “Designed Around You”, making the All-New V40 an excellent platform to strengthen the Volvo brand.
Moving to the inside, the new Volvo V40 features a contemporary, premium dashboard, black-accented door panels and leather seats with sufficient cabin space. The interior is designed to offer the driver and passengers a spacious and relaxing atmosphere with a true Scandinavian flavor; although Volvo now belongs to a Chinese conglomerate, they’re still very much Swedish.
The floating center console, a Volvo ingenuity, houses a new, fully graphic digital instrument cluster that displays driver’s and all other relevant vehicle information in three graphic themes; Elegance, Eco and Performance. The vehicle’s information is displayed on either a 5-inch or 7-inch touch screen, while the Volvo Sensus or switches on the steering give the driver the easiest of access. As for the audio system, the V40 allows Bluetooth connectivity, as do all other Volvo variants.
The T5 specifications of the Volvo V40 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, whereas the T4 V40 takes up a 1.6-liter engine which is paired to a 6-speed Powershift transmission. The T5 and T4 V40s push 213 hp/300 Nm of torque and 180hp/240 Nm, respectively.
The new Volvo V40 T4 goes for RM173,888, the T5 is RM188,888 and the T5 Cross Country is RM 198,888. The V40s include a 5-year warranty and 5-year Volvo On-call cover.
