The New Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 is the latest edition of the widely successful customer rally car by the folks at Wolfsburg. This latest 272PS Polo GTI incarnation has been fine-tuned and optimized for rallying purposes.

The 2020 VW Polo GTI R5 is a four-wheel drive configuration and will receive modified suspension parts by the second quarter of 2020. In addition, new components for other key areas of the car will be developed over the course of the year. VW is able to improve on the GTI R5 from all the feedbacks received directly from drivers and teams via VW’s direct feedback system.

What’s already in place?

The 2020 VW Polo GTI has new chassis components, plus a larger package of detailed improvements are expected to be developed over the course of the year. Thereafter, homologation is required for use in competitions including the WRC, ERC and national rally competitions.

As for production, VW is ramping up production of the Polo GTI R5 to meet the claimed high demand. Production is expected to begin this year and proceed beyond 2020.

The accomplishments

Polo GTI R5 has been a benchmark in customer rallying. As at end of 2019, the rally car has attained  more than 75 victories and 125 podium finishes. The GTI R5 has proven to be overwhelming on all surfaces, whether on asphalt, gravel, or ice and snow.
