2015 Lexus RX makes domestic debut

2015 Lexus RX350 The all-new Lexus RX becomes the latest variant to join Lexus Malaysia’s line-up, following the introduction of the NX compact Crosssover line-up, refreshed ES and new IS range. The latest Lexus RX, which made its global a month ago, represents the fourth-generation of Lexus’ mid-sized Premium SUV.

Since its arrival in 2009, the Lexus RX has been one of the more sought-after variant offered by Lexus Malaysia. Up to date, the Lexus RX has garnered over 2,300 units through the three generations. This invariably led to the RX being conferred the third most popular Luxury car in the domestic market.

The new Lexus RX’s mixture of sharp creases and curves accentuate a bold evolution in its styling and share the same design DNA with the recently-launched variants in the Lexus repertoire. The exterior elements carried by the Lexus RX include the “floating roof” effect and a more pronounced “Spindle Grille”.

In dimensions, the 2015 Lexus RX is pretty expanded, with a 50 mm increase in wheelbase, providing adequately more cabin space than its predecessor. With an interior space optimized for five passengers, the new Lexus RX’s lowered rear floor section assists to provide seating position comparable to that of the flagship Lexus LS luxury sedan.

The Lexus RX comprises of six versions: RX200t Premium, RX200t Luxury, RX200t F SPORT, RX350 Luxury, RX350 F SPORT and RX450h. Each version is purposefully brought forth to fit the varying budget of discerning premium car buyers. And obviously, the F Sport (RX200t and RX350) and Hybrid version (RX450h) are targeted toward more performance-oriented individuals, as well as environmentally conscious folks.

Engineered for high-quality functionality, the RX200t range is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injected inline 4-cylinder petrol engine, to go along with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Moving up a notch, the RX350 with its able 3.5-liter direct-injected V-6 petrol engine, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, pushes power and torque figures soaring high. Last but not least, the RX 450h is now powered by a 3.5-liter direct-injected V-6 petrol engine, with an improved hybrid powertrain.

Akio Takeyama, Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota, remarked, “The RX stands for Radiant Crossover, and that is exactly what the Lexus RX is: Radiant. The all-new Lexus RX is another groundbreaking introduction to the Lexus line-up, and we are positive that it will be well-received by discerning customers looking for both luxury and functionality.”

The Lexus RX line-up now comprises three new body hues: Graphite Black GF (Glass Flake), Amber CS (Crystal Shine) and Deep Blue MC (Mica). Lexus Malaysia retails the Lexus RX 200t base version from RM 388,800 up till RM520, 200 for the top-of-the-line RX 450h hybrid.
