Following its recent debut, the New, 5th-generation Honda City has quickly achieved high booking numbers with 9,000 units in just over a month of its official release.
According to Honda Malaysia, the 9,000 bookings are made up orders from the Central, Northern and Southern regions of the country. The central region tallied 44 percent, while the North and South accounted for 22 and 19 percent. In addition, 54 percent of the bookings chose the Honda City V variant and some 28 percent picked the Pearl White as their favorite color. Honda Malaysia also revealed that only 2,400 units of the New City were delivered from the long waiting list. Although efforts to double up production has been initiated, Honda Malaysia wishes to request customers’ understanding due to the current partial lockdown situation.
The Honda City in its fifth-generation was first introduced to the world in neighboring country Thailand. Its got LEDs for headlights, DRLs, foglights and rearlights (V spec only); for the first time. Additionally, wheel size has been increased to 16-inch to give it a more athletic prowess.
On the inside, the cabin has a rear vent across the range along with leather seats and a hint of Ivory highlights within the cabin. Tech available for the City V and E versions is an 8-inch touchscreen with relevant connectivity. Both V and E versions have the steering shifters and Remote Engine Start function, for the first time.
Under the hood, the New City carries a (121PS/145Nm) 1.5l DOHC i-VTEC, matched with a CVT gearbox. The top-of-the-line City RS e:HEV, meanwhile, gets an intelligent Multi-Mode Drive(i-MMD) powertrain that delivers 109PS and a best-in-class max torque of 253Nm.
Safety comprises of the Honda LaneWatch and all the customary usual features such as airbags, Isofix points, VSA, ABS, EBD, ESS, Hill Start Assist (HAS) and seatbelt reminder at the rear, as well as sensors with reverse camera (V and E versions).
