As petrolheads would know the Volkswagen Golf R is a formidable sports compact hatch and best selling performance model in VW’s performance range, the last decade or so. Now, the VW Golf R gets further ‘juiced up’ with new 4MOTION all-wheel drive system and torque vectoring to enable a jacked up 320 PS and 420 Nm of torque.
What’s in the rear axle
The updated VW Golf R is the first model to be fitted with 4MOTION all-wheel drive and R Performance torque vectoring. This system, intelligently networked via the vehicle dynamics settings, enables a new dimension of dynamic driving. It simply means power isn’t just distributed between the front and rear axles, but between the rear wheels as well, translating to better agility, particularly when cornering.
Volkswagen Golf R Performance package
Available as an option, the R Performance boosts top speed another 20 km/h to 270 km/h. In addition, the package affords a larger, prominent rear spoiler, 19-inch wheels in the Estoril design and two drive extra modes: “Special” and and “Drift”. The drive modes are selectable on a switch on the steering.
Lastly, the optimized gearbox keeps rpm consistently high. At the same time, the dual clutch gearbox (DSG) switches up as late as possible and down as early as possible to assist power build up.
