The country is in a third Lockdown due to the pandemic as the Government declared it rather suddenly. Still, life goes on in the automotive world!
At the onset of the lockdown, BMW Malaysia revealed two locally-assembled models, the 740Le xDrive M Sport and X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence.
We take a look at the large sedan 740Le first. Seeing how it is customary for the local BMW to infuse M Sport in all models; this time the M Sport package goes to the 7 Series. The M Sport 740Le hits a retail price of just over the half million mark, at RM 591,503.05.
What’s unique about the 740Le M Sport
It’s a large sedan, no doubt. The BMW signature look on the 740Le M Sport is enhanced by larger air intakes, C-shaped brackets, the unmistakable kidney grille and Laser headlights. Throw in the M Sport package, you get High-gloss Shadow Line to give the profile a more definite expression, new rocker panel to up its upmarket appeal and 19-inch M wheels (Double-Spoke style 647 M Bicolor), as well as M Sport brakes.
The fact that the interior of the 7 Series is even better than an aircraft’s first class seat has some testaments to it. The cabin has a purpose to provide Bliss; we have the Sky Lounge panorama glass roof, fine wood trims, alcantara headliners, M Sport steering, leather Nappa upholstery (Black or Cognac stitching), adjustable comfort seats, 4-zone a/c and comfort access for the tailgate. For infotainment, you receive the Live Cockpit Professional via 12.3-inch instrument cluster and 10.25-inch touch display, HUD and 10-inch monitors on the headrests for the rear passengers.
A 3.0l with electric motor, paired to an 8-speed gearbox, pushes the car to an output of 286 hp and 450 Nm of torque. On electric motor, it achieves 113 hp and 265 Nm. When combined, the car can do 394 hp and 600 Nm. Fuel consumption is kept at 2.8 liters per 100 km when driving on Eco mode.
Major equipment reserved for the 740Le include Driving Assistant Professional, Parking Assistant Plus, Connected Package Professional, wireless charging and BMW display key.
The 740Le xDrive M Sport is offered in four body hues: Mineral White, Carbon Black Metallic, Donington Grey and Bernina Grey with Amber effect.
BMW X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence
Similar to the imported unit, the locally-assembled one is meant to be a lot of cost effective.
Much like the 740Le, the X7 Pure Excellence is higher off the ground and offers more space on the inside. The front is obviously fitted with very large kidney grille, while the side is expressed by the 21-inch light wheels and the two rectangle exhausts at the rear-end.
Interior-wise, the X7 Pure Excellence features “Crafted Clarity” handmade diamond-cut trims. Everything else is similar on the equipment list compared to the 7 Series, except the 5-zone a/c and an expandable boot space of 2,120 liters.
Like its CBU counterpart, the engine with 8-speed transmission outputs 340hp and 450Nm of torque.
Due to the relative height of the car, stability of the SAV is kept honest with these standard equipment: the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Executive Drive Pro.
The X7 xDrive40i comes in Black Sapphire, Sophisto Grey, Phytonic Blue, Manhattan Metallic and Mineral White body hues. Interior colors are Cognac Leather Vernasca upholstery with Black perforations or all-Black Leather Vernasca interior, or Leather Vernasca in Coffee with Black perforations (only for Mineral White). The price for the locally-assembled X7 is RM 673,323.61.
Both cars hit BMW showrooms beginning 8 May.
