The Honda Civic needs no introduction as it has had ten variations of it since its first arrival in the 70s. Ten generations later, the Honda Civic remains a popular choice due to its acceptable performance and most importantly, its competitive pricing against rivals’ compact sedans.
Fans and enthusiasts of the Civic model would be happy to know that Honda has just previewed first images of its 11th-generation Civic to the world. The New Honda Civic looks like a hatchback, but has 5 doors, kind of resembling the current 10th generation Civic.
The Civic has been the bread and butter for Honda for nearly half a century, along with the Jazz and City in Asia. The first Civic came out in 1972, for those of you who don’t know. The model’s sales has reached over 27 million units worldwide, across 170 countries.
In Malaysia, the 8th-generation Honda Civic, which came out about 2006, was a tremendous hit. The subsequent generation, especially the 9th generation, was not as popular and tanked. The 10th generation Civic brought some life back to the range for Honda Malaysia as sales has been rather optimistic, but still can’t compare to the 8th generation Civic.
The 11th generation Honda Civic is said to come exclusively with a hybrid powertrain, hence the e:HEV tag. It is the latest model to feature the brand’s advanced e:HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) powertrain, and meeting the objective for all mainstream models to feature electrified powertrains by 2022.
Honda e:HEV isn’t entirely new as it has been offered in the recently introduced Jazz, CR-V and HR-V in other world regions. The e:HEV is Honda’s widely acclaimed hybrid powertrain to offer a good blend of fun-to-drive performance and efficiency.
The 11th generation Honda Civic is set to begin production then its official debut in major markets by 2022.
