As featured earlier, the 5th-generation Honda City has world premiered in Thailand, a country where Honda’s compact sedan model is built. The New City will be displayed at the Thai Motor Expo from 29 November till 10 December.
Carrying the previous platform of the fourth-gen City, the New City spots the latest exterior and interior combination, But, more importantly it’s got a 122PS 1.0-liter VTEC turbo engine, which offers a satisfying power output yet remains rather frugal.
The New City has sharper, more premium motifs and projector headlights with LED DRLs. The chrome grille, and shark fin antenna have been updated as well, along with LED rearlights. The wheels are all-new in 15-inch sizes.
For the first time, the New City comes in an RS variant which comes with a bunch of goodies such as gloss black front grille with RS logo, sporty front bumper, LED Headlights with LED DRLs, LED fogs and 16-inch wheels. An exclusive Red body paint is reserved for the City RS version.
Moving inside, the car has improved ergonomics and a slightly bigger cabin. They gave it a black interior for the standard edition along with two-tone leather seats for the SV variant. The other highlights inside include a Piano Black console, chrome inside door handles, a Multi-information Display (MID) with illumination, an 8-inch touchscreen, a steering with switches and more. For the City RS version, they’ve added power-retractable side mirrors with turn signal, black trunk spoiler with an “RS” logo, leather seats with red stitching and an MID with red illumination.
The New Honda City houses a 1.0-liter DOHC 3-cyl turbo to deliver 122 PS at 5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 173 Nm at 2,000 to 4,500 rpm. The City’s engine is equivalent to a 1.8l engine and paired with a CVT gearbox. Frugal consumption hints the New City can do 23.8 kilometers/liter. There’s even a 7-speed shifter with cruise control system.
On the safety front, the compact sedan features the famed Honda G-CON (G-Force Control) body structure, along with six airbags, ABS, EBD, VSA, Hill Start Assist and multi-view reverse camera.
There are four variants of the New Honda City: Honda City S, City V, City SV and City RS. Color palette is up to six options witn two reserved for the SV and RS variants.
No word from Honda Malaysia about the influx of the 5th-generation Honda City, at this point in time.
