The Porsche 718 family in Malaysia today welcome two new range-topping performance model, the new 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder. This 2 new model welcome back the naturally aspirated flat-six engine and 6-speed manual transmission back into the mid-engine Porsche sports car.
The new engine that Porsche fitted into the 718 family is the naturally aspirated 4L flat-six engine that was found in the 911 Carrera model series cars. This gave the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder an additional 35hp and 45hp over its predecessor, and both cars gets similar maximum torque 420Nm from 5,000 – 6,800rpm. Matched with a 6-speed manual transmission that features a dynamic rev-matching function, the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder can get from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and top up more than 300 km/h.
With additional power, Porsche also gave the 718 Cayman GT4 with more downforce-oriented aerodynamic. The whole aerodynamic produce up to 50% more downforce without adding any drag. This is achieve by having a new diffuser and a fixed rear wing at the rear, and a larger spoiler lip and air curtains at the front. As for the 718 Spyder, it gets a new honeycomb air intake grille at the front to smooth out the air flow, while a new spoiler lip and central air intake that reduce lift at the front axle. At the rear, an active spoiler works in tandem with the rear diffuser to provide downforce at the rear axle.
On the design front, the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder gets large 20-inch wheels, side blades with recessed lettering, tinted taillights and the dark-tinted front lights above the side air intakes. On the inside, the instrument cluster comes with analogue rev counter in the centre, brushed alumimium decorative trim, decorative stitching, and door pull loops give the cars a motorsports feel.
Another emphasis that Porsche was emphasizing is the GT chassis can be found both 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder. The GT chassis was design to deliver agile handling and good driving stability at high speeds. For the 718 Cayman GT4, owners can adjust the height, camber, toe angle and the anti-roll bars of the chassis to suit different circuit or driving style.
To bring the both cars to a stop, the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder gets high performance brake system with a large aluminium monobloc fixed-calliper brakes with internally ventilated and perforated for optimum cooling. For those who wanted even more braking performance, they can opt for the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB).
Speaking about options, the 718 Cayman GT4 can be equipped with the optional Clubsport package. The Clubsport package comes with a rear steel roll bar, a hand-held fire extinguisher and a six-point seatbelt on the driver’s side. Whereas on the 718 Spyder, buyers can opt for two-tone leather interior in Bordeaux Red/Black gives an especially unique and high quality look and feel.
To add a final touches on to both of the 718 model, it now gets a new precise sports exhaust system. The exhaust system will further enhance the driving experience by providing an unparalleled boxer sound that is unique to Porsche.
