A Hybrid variant for the Subaru Forester line-up: the Forester e-Boxer

The Subaru Forester has been a staple in the brand’s line-up for decades. The sturdy SUV by Subaru, now into its fifth-generation, has been included with an e-BOXER powertrain. The powertrain is basically the famous Boxer engine combined with an electric motor.

In its fifth-generation, the Forester has its recognizable looks with emphasis on space, high quality interior, huge boot space and tall ground clearance (220mm).  The ground clearance and upgraded X-Mode enable it to be a suitable off-roader. In dimensions, the Forester e-Boxer is 20mm wider and 30mm longer than the outgoing variant.

Interior-wise, the Forester e-Boxer benefits from a new electronic parking brake and 8-way power adjustable driver and front passenger seats. In addition to heated front seats, Forester Premium is equipped with heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel, along an 8″ multifunction color touchscreen, radio and Bluetooth.

What’s the benefits of an e-Boxer

The Forester has an e-Boxer engine which is made up of a 2.0 direct injection horizontally opposed petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The motor consists of a lithium-ion battery mounted within the boot floor and allows for electric driving at low speeds. The hybrid powertrain also includes an updated Lineartronic transmission and Subaru’s Symmetrical All Wheel Drive,

The e-Boxer offers benefits at low-, mid- and high-speed. On low speed, a 10 percent fuel economy is attainable. At mid speed, with motor assist driving, the car has improved performance thanks to the X-Mode setup. For high speed, the car runs on petrol without assistance from the motor, whatsoever.

The Forester e-Boxer like most Subarus is based on the brand’s Global Platform. The platform’s body and chassis improve performance and deliver exceptional driving capability. Body strength has been increased by 40% compared to the outgoing Forester allowing the frame structure to absorb more energy in the event of a collision, in other words a more rigid bodyshell.

Driver Monitoring System is standard in the Forester e-Boxer to complement its existing safety technologies. Other safety and driver assist features include the EyeSight driver assist technology, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Lane Sway and Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Rear Vehicle Detection and Reverse Automatic Braking.
