All-new Hyundai Sonata featuring Sensuous Sportiness design

The Hyundai Sonata has made a small impact in the large sedan segment in Malaysia when it was available years ago. Hyundai Sime Darby Motors debuted the 7th-generation Sonata, way back in 2014. Since then, the Sonata line has been wiped off the product list due to poor acceptance rate and a competitive market factor for D-segment. The local Hyundai distributor finds the SUV models more appealing to Malaysian masses. Therefore, more marketing efforts have been put forth to promote the Tucsons and Sante Fes. The local Hyundai line-ups currently consist of the Elantra, IONIQ Hybrid, Grand Starex and the two SUV lines. What happened to the eight-generation Sonata that should supposedly make its entry into Malaysia? Well, the model has been off the charts for several years now and it doesn’t look like Hyundai Malaysia plans to bring it back anytime soon.

We feature the 8th-generation Hyundai Sonata anyhow because we deemed it as a worthy large sedan the world over. Global sales has been nothing short of impressive for this Hyundai flagship model, especially in the U.S. The all-new Hyundai Sonata is making an appearance at the upcoming Miami Auto Show. Meantime, Hyundai America has confirmed that production and sales would begin at once.

What’s cool about the New Hyundai Sonata?

The all-new Hyundai Sonata is the first sedan designed with Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design language. It is a fully transformed vehicle showcasing a sporty four-door-coupe look and represents Hyundai’s new focus on creating emotional value using proportion, styling, and technology.

The 8th-generation Sonata embodies the evolution of a new Hyundai design theme, a portfolio of vehicles that, like chess pieces on a board, look and behave differently, each with a clear role and function, but together exemplify a cohesive team.

In addition, the latest Sonata is the first model to be based on Hyundai’s new, innovative vehicle platform, which delivers increased strength and reduced weight to enable improvements in design, safety, efficiency and driving performance. The car uses an extensive application of advanced technologies to boost comfort, convenience and active safety.

With all these credentials, it is unsettling that the New Hyundai Sonata isn’t going to make it to this country. To the local rep, selling the model isn’t a venture they’re all that keen due to the decreasing demand for large sedans and preference for SUVs. Furthermore, Hyundai in Malaysia would have its hands full with the likes of Toyota, Honda, Mazda and the Continental makes, should they take the gamble to bring forth the New Sonata.
