BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe makes domestic debut

BMW Malaysia today reveals the 4 Series Gran Coupe, the third and final version of the 4 Series range, The 428i provides four-door practicality, the sporty and elegant combination and a much larger boot space.

In looks, the 428i has the typical BMW short overhangs, the long bonnet and set-back passenger compartment. Up front, the Gran Coupe shares the typical BMW design features such as the double-kidney grille, dual round headlights with Corona rings and the large air intake in the front apron. Gently stretched, the roofline flows across both rear doors and blends into the slightly raised and short rear section of the car. When viewed from the rear, the roof of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé appears somewhat wider than that of the two-door version, emphasizing its road presence. Wheel and tyre sizes consist of the light alloy 18-inchers across the board.

Moving to the inside, the extended roofline (112mm longer) gives the 4-door Gran coupe version a lot more headroom in the cabin; more so to the rear. Boot space has been increased to 480 liters, 35 liters more than the 2-door version. When the rear seats are folded down, the load capacity increases to 1,300 liters. The cabin itself features lines from the cockpit stretch along the front doors and the column to the rear passenger compartment. The shape of the 2 + 1 rear bench seat resembles the look of two individual seats, while the upholstered console surface between them allow for a third passenger, smack in the middle.

In addition, a flat floor and a two-part loading strip made of stainless steel are practical convenience elements that are combined with premium materials. Highlights for the interior include an electronically-enabled wide-acess tailgate, a Sport multi-function leather steering, Dakota leather upholstery, dual-zone air conditioning, a 6.5-inch color screen, and the BMW ConnectedDrive package with BMW Apps and Live.

The 428i is powered by a 2.0-liter engine, paired to an 8-speed Steptronic transmission, for a power output of up to 245hp and 350Nm of peak torque. The Gran Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds with a top speed of 250km/h. Fuel and emissions are rated 6.6 liter per 100km and 154 grams per 100 kilometer. With available drive modes; Sport, Comfort and Eco Pro, the driver is able to chose from a fuel efficient cruise, normal to an aggresive-typed driving.

BMW also introduced two new Motorrads at the unveiling of the 4 Series Gran Coupe in the form of the BMW F 800 R and BMW 800 GS; both assembled at the plant in Thailand.

THe BMW 428i is valid in these colors: Alpine White, Melbourne Red, Glacier Silver, Mineral Grey, Jatoba Metallic, Carbon Black (M Sport ) and Estoril Blue (M Sport). On the inside, the options include Leather Dakota Black with Red highlights, Leather Dakota Oyster with Black highlights and Leather Dakota Coral Red with Black highlights; while the M Sport has these options Leather Dakota Black with Black highlights, Leather Dakota Ivory White with Black highlights or Leather Dakota Coral Red with Black highlights.
